LS1 Master Cylinder Fittings (Already Searched)

I've already searched, but can't find a solid answer. Does the 98-02 F-body master cylinder require different fittings? Some guys say it's a direct bolt on and others say that their original fittings didn't seat quite right. So, what's the deal? The car is an 86 with a front disc/rear drum master cylinder right now.

TIA

Mine bolted right in. I did change the line for the rear due to a proportioning valve, but other than that it bolted right up.

Re: LS1 Master Cylinder Fittings (Already Searched)

Okay, so the threads and the flare were the same on both master cylinders? I thought maybe on the 98-02 mc they went to a bubble flare, and I assume that they are double flares on thirdgens. But, if it bolted right up on your car with no leaks, maybe I'm wrong about the different flare styles. Are you running an adj.prop. valve?

thanks for the help

The 98-02 LS1 master cylinder is a direct bolt on to 84-92 thirdgens.

Re: LS1 Master Cylinder Fittings (Already Searched)

Thanks for the help guys. I just talked to the tech at SJM Manufacturing and he was very helpful. The guy talked to me for about 30 min and is going to custom build me one of their line lock setups for 4th gens to bolt in on my car. Great company with excellent service. Great prices too!

Re: LS1 Master Cylinder Fittings (Already Searched)

I'll be installing the LS1 front brakes and hope to do the rear swap sometime down the road. I have considered swapping the 98-02 MC, but is there any benifit? I believe there is another thread just below this that mentions they are about 1/2" shorter then the stock unit and they have better internal baffles. Are they narrower then the stock unit too? Is there any real performance gain, or does it just save space in the engine bay?

Mike
