OK Guys... I need help please. I have a 88 Iroc with the Borg-Warner axle with disc brakes. Can i swap the disc brakes from the 9 bolt to 2004 10 bolt exle???
My Borg-Warner rear axle is makeing a woring noise when driveing. I have checked the gear oil to find the oil was leaking out and had a very small amount of oil left in it. So i fix the leak and put in new oil plus the additive for Possy track rear ends.
I just got the car and fixing the bugs out of it. The 10 bolt rear end was bought from F-Bodys in Charrlott, NC. I believe they told me the 10 bolt was out of a 2004 Formla Firebid, but it haves the DRUM BRAKES.
So I thought to go ahead and swap rear ends out and put the disc brakes on. Am I makeing the right choise??????
Also... what is so specail about the Borg Warner rear ends?????
You can't swap the disc to a drum rear without modification or Ed Miller's kit. Remember too that you'll need a disc proportioning valve, e-brake cables, and driven and/or driven gears to make the speedo rear correctly.
BTW, the flanges/backing plates are different between 9- and 10-bolts. Nine-bolt are a bit stronger, but parts are apparently difficult to come by. The following FAQ will provide more info on 10-bolts:
