Rear PBR overhaul

So, I got a set of PBR calipers and axle flange brackets for my 9-bolt. I took them apart just fine, but have a couple of questions on getting them back together.

Firstly, the area between the actual caliper piston and the brake pad piston, do I fill this with brake fluid? Grease? Leave it empty?

Secondly, how do I adjust for free travel? I mean, I know it's the little allen set screw, but what do I adjust for? I'm going to have new rotors + pads when I adjust, so it should be a good adjustment.

Thirdly, how do I recompress the parking brake springs to reinstall them in the assembly? I got them out using a 1/4" drive extension and one of the holes in the bracket, but I don't think that will get them back in.

Thanks! Anyone know about the area between the piston and the clamp rod?
