1986 Z28 for sale: zzz crate motor, new 3.73 rear, rebuilt tranny MD/VA/DC/PA

Well I have already spent around 9k on this thing and now i gotta cut my losses and get rid of it. Most of you have probably seen it, and can see pics in my sig. Anyways, heres what it has now.

Engine:
ZZZ 350 crate motor with 25k on it (345hp/385tq)
TPI with accel 2x58 throttle body and K&N filters
Edelbrock Headers
High Flow Cat
Flowmaster Catback
NEW Radiator 0 miles
NEW Distributor 0 miles
Tune Up (plugs, wires, coil, etc) 0 miles

Drivetrain:
Just got the 700r4 rebuilt to handle the new motor and a Transgo shift kit and Beast sunshell in it with less than 4 miles on it.
3.73 rear with 25k on it as well (not just the gears, the whole rear)

Interior/Stereo:
Brand new seats
Aiwa head unit with front mounted input
Pretty much all in mint condition with all electronics working (cept the cig lighter occasionally will not work)

Suspension:
Sensatrac struts
Helper springs wrapping rear shocks for launches
American Racing wheels, and brand new BF Goodrich tires

Body:
NO RUST
Basically flawless with a couple dents on each door, and the occasional little ding around the car.
Also, a few small spots with touch up paint, but you gotta get near it to see it.

Points:
Passed inspection in June
Eligible for historic tags
Headliner a little droopy
Clips from seatbelt to headliner are loose, but actual seatbelt still works
Hypertech Chip
Have just about all the reciepts for it
T top car
Very rare color combination. Gunmetal cars are very hard to come by as it is, but only z28s came with a different color gfx (irocs and rs's did not). also, most of the gunmetal z28s came with silver gfx and not charcoal. Just something to think about.

I have been very good to the members on this site and I am not trying to rip anyone off here. I paid 6600 for the car in June, and as you can see, I have done a lot with it recently. Between the tranny rebuild, tune up, and ignition fix i just went through the total comes just short of 9000 dollars. now, everything on the car is new, and i cant see why there would be any new problems with it. My parents want me to "cut my losses" and get a more reliable car for school next year. Also, because of an event I cant mention on here, I really dont have a lot of money to play around with. My parents are makin me get their friends 88 accord 4 door with just under 100k on it please dont make this too hard for me, im going through plenty of other problems as it is. Oh and by the way, it gets about 14 mpg strictly city and over 20 highway (havent calculated). Thanks a lot guys, and thanks for all the help with my car, and the good times we had hanging out.

With a holley stealth ram (~600 bucks) and a higher stall converter this thing could probably hit 12s. Thanks a lot for reading.
----------
Actually, here are a few pictures:

Since this picture, Ebrake has been adjusted properly, and stereo has been replaced.

You can see the new seats, and very clean plastics here.

There is a dent just like this on each side, and thats all, cept a couple tiny dings.

Just looking good after being washed.
[/quote]
----------
A couple more pics:

the tires really dont stick out past the quarters, its just the camera angle. theyre pretty much dead on lined up, but do not stick out.

lol. i havent decided on a price yet. like i said ive blown 9k on this thing making it right, and now my parents say that i should stop here while its good and get something with better mileage while i can sell this at its peak. i mean i paid 6600 in june, and since then ive gotten the tranny rebuilt (i would mention other things like the distributor, tune up, etc, but those dont really bring in the money). the new tranny has a one year warranty and its only been like a month.

Few more things i wanted to mention. transmission has a 1 year warranty on it. I also added a 145 mph speedo and have some custom faces made by a board member (not white face, they are very nice with just a different font). i will include both types of grilles as well. i also have a couple shift kits and a spare gauge cluster i could give out with it. i think thats all the spare parts i got (shift kits add up to about 200 bucks, maybe sell em on here?). feel free to stop by anytime to check it out. i need to get rid of it, my parents on getting on me about it.

TTT, i really gotta ditch this thing this summer. feel free to stop by and take a look. This car really has a lot going for it. Im not gonna fall for any lowballers, if worse comes to worse i can use this car for school, id just rather not. New interior, new motor, new trans, new rear, full tune up, new wheels, new tires, im even getting a new custom tuned computer chip for it. 7500 or best offer i guess, just to throw a number out there.

Oh yea, trade offers welcome too. Im gonna need something to replace her. preferably with no modifications, and if its a third gen, it better be nice if you dont wanna add a little cash on your side, which im willing to do as well

Get real borther, just because you dumped 9,000 grand into this doesn't mean your going to get close to that now that you selling.

No offense, but you're one of the reason why buying a car sucks nowadays. Nobody asks a realistic price. Everyone groans about lowballers....and then asks some exorbitant price. You're not getting 10 grand for it. Putting alot of money into a car means jack, really.

I say you're lucky at $5-6,000, $7,000 if you fight the right buyer.

I was interested in your car for $5000 because it is the same color as one I had in high school. I considered $5000 a premium on the car because it is the color I want. I've found similarly clean third gens for considerably less. (I already own an 87 IROC z28 bone stock and an 82 SC slightly modified).

That price was *before* I saw the history on it. I may still be interested but I have a few questions.

From your posts in the forums you've had some issues with the ECU throwing codes. Has this fixed? If so, how? Are you using the Hypertech chip, a stock 350 chip or a stock 305 chip? The last of these posts was like two weeks ago.

Did you ever identify the tapping? Was it lifters? Does the car need valve lash set or does it have hydraulic lifters?

Also, how much money are *you* actually asking for the car?

well, first, the codes were all the hypertech chip. i replaced that with a stock chip from a 350 iroc and poof, no codes. the tapping sound was the lifters and it only does it a little bit and only when its cold. i really would like 7500 or best offer with all the money and time ive put into it. let me know if you have anymore questions.

I understand where you are coming from. I truly do. I would like you to understand why I think this is not a 7500 dollar car. I ytuly wish you the best of luck in selling it at that price. Maybe you'll find someone with more money than knowledge about these cars.

Lets assume for argument eveything is squared away with the car mechanically.

The car has no collector value because it's been modified and was a standard base to begin with. This car is a very clean modified camaro, probably an L69. It's not a super clean unmodified IROC Z28.

There haven't been any real modifications made to the car since you bought it. You had a stock transmission with a shift kit installed. Do you really believe this makes your car worth 1000 dollar more than you paid for it? You have basically restored the car to the condition it was in when you bought it.

Another point is all the money you spent was on labor. Which brings me something my father taught me. "If your going to hot rod plan on doing you own labor and walking a lot". All that money means nothing to me as a buyer since it only maintained the vehicle, it didn't improve it.

I'm not trying to ruin your day. I just think you have to be a little more realistic in your price. Best of luck.

making sense... opps ... cents

One thing we all learned with these cars is that you never get what you put into the car, except the pleasure of driving.

This is not the car to buy with the intention of making a profit.

Your first mistake was not naming a price. If you leave the door open someone will come in. Set your price and be done with it. Look at what other cars "just like" yours is worth. Then you will know what you can sell yours for. The value of the car is only what someone is willing to pay for it.

i wasnt expecting profit, i was expecting to cut my losses. and now ive got it all fixed up and im running a much better setup on the motor...which actually cost less than what i sold the old setup for. im running a carb now with msd ignition, and its a world of difference.
