Re: 86 IROC in Hampton Roads, VA $3k

170k miles on original motor but runs like it has much less. drivetrain is very solid. tranny was rebuilt by previous owner, 700r4. no problems at all.

I'm not aware of any rust on it.

I've had it 3.5 years and it's been my daily driver the whole time.

The deal with this car is I've done so much "small" (but critical) stuff to it, that the next owner won't need to replace it all for a long while and can focus on stuff like new interior, better sound, high performance, etc. I wanted to get all the mechanical stuff working right before I spent money on what looks nice. I've used Napa, CarQuest, or GM parts on nearly everything, especially if it was critical. for example, when the OE ignition module went out i didn't bother with anyone other than the dealer. if you're in Hampton Roads, come check it out. it's a nice car and I'll probably regret it when i sell it.

Here's what I've done to it:
*New inspection thru 3/09
*B&M Megashifter
*"new" used seats from an 80s Cavalier (virtually identical to thirdgen seats, no rips or tears, color is light blue and I use seat covers for that reason). Driver side seat has extra batting in it to make it softer.
*Grant steering wheel
*New KYB Gas a Just shocks in rear (installed last spring)
*New KYB AGX 4-way adjustable front struts (installed last spring)
*New strut mounts
*Fairly new alternator (in last year or so)
*Oil/filter changed religiously every 2-3k miles with conventional
*Replaced EGR valve (one of my first jobs on it)
*Replaced smog pump (one of my first jobs)
*Replaced lower radiator hose (first jobs...)
*New OEM thermostat in last year (I think it's 190* or 195*--I ran a 180* for a while but computer didn't like that in winter, so i swapped back to OEM)
*New Delco water pump in last six months
*Replaced IAC valve (first jobs...)
*New coil, cap, and rotor in past six months
*New ignition module in past few months
*New Delco Rapidfire spark plugs in past six months or so. Improved throttle response and fuel economy a bit.
*235/60/15 Cooper Cobras all around, 2-3 years old. Good condition, plenty of tread left. Always rotated on schedule. NOTE: IROCS came with 16" wheels, but the previous owner(s) installed 15"s on this car, probably for the lower cost of new tires. This car is an IROC...I checked the RPO codes on the center console label and matched up the VIN on that label with the car VIN.
*Reset TPS to correct voltage
*Fairly new MAF sensor
*New tranny fluid and filter in past year or so.
*Tranny was rebuilt by previous owner. Shifts perfectly. I think he had Corvette servos installed on the rebuild, so it's a sportier transmission than some, but still a driver's tranny.
*AC installed two summers ago and blows cold.
*T-tops professionally sealed by a local shop. They do not leak. Once in a while after a big storm, i might see a drop or two on the passenger side seat cover, which I think is coming from where my windshield meets the frame, so I injected some permatex adhesive under the decorative rubber seal/cover last week. I think that has solved the problem.
*New cat converter in last couple years.
*Fairly new stereo unit/CD player installed. Nothing fancy, but plays music just fine.
*Replaced heater core two years ago. Heat is HOT.
*New upper driver side door hinge installed professionally.
*Mostly new weather stripping (for the t-tops and windows. doors still need new seals but the only problem there is wind noise)
*Fairly new aluminum radiator in great shape (previous owner installed)
*Fairly new radiator cap
*Rear differential lube change within last two years.
*Replaced rear axle oil seal on driver side.
*K&N air filters.
*Gutted air box for better breathing. Still have stock air box with baffles.
*Driver side front brake caliper replaced when I bought it.
*New air dam last summer.
*Repainted center console plastic black so it looks clean and not dull.
*New windshield in past couple years.
*New cooling fan motor (installed 2/8/08)
*New rag joint in past 8 months.
*New GM window switches!
