Price check please - 82 Camaro

First: Moderators I am not sure where else to post this on the site.
Second: NO, I am not trying sell a car, I am looking for a track-day 3rd gen, and am looking for pricing advise.

I have a coworker that is thinking of selling his 82 Camaro track car. It is not built to any competetive spec, rather it is just built to have fun with at the track. I have not set eyes on it, but i want to get an idea of what the car is work before I even go over to his place.

SPecs:
82 Camaro, I am told the body is not rotted, but it's not pristine, I assume good structure, no visible rust, paint might be not so good.

ZZ4 engine - carbureted, T56 trans, some sort of race seats, a couple sets of 16" wheels with track rubber, and one set of 17" wheels. Posi rear, some sort of big front brakes, I am not sure whose though, as I just checked Baer, and did not see an 82-92 kit, but I might have missed it.

Some sort of lowering springs, and Koni adjustable shocks.

To reiterate, I am only look at this as a track car... and he's only selling it as a track car. He has a C5 Z06 he open tracks now, and has not driven this car in a LONG time, likely 5-6 years.

I have a # in my head, I know what he wants, which I think is to high, but I need more opinions...

So, fire away.

MODS: if there is a better place to post this, please move it.

Thanks.

Mike

Re: Price check please - 82 Camaro

from what you described, its nothing special. The only things in there that cost big $$ are the ZZ4 crate motor,a nd the T56 and maybe also the brakes.

However, most cars on this forum are "upgraded" to the specs you described. For it to be a serious trackday car and be competitive, it would need some SERIOUS frame reinforcement done, ie: atleast SFCs or roll cage, and have some modifications to accomodate a tougher rear end. Either a beefed up 7.5 or a 4link suspension provision.

With that said, i would look at what you want to accomplish. Im assuming you are talking about circuit track, and not a drag strip btw... If you want more than 500 hp, then the T56 (which im assuming is probably a transplant), is not sufficient. It would need a TKO 600 if you want to keep manual.

With that said, i think $3000-4000 is a fair price, for a get in and go racing type of car. But if you have modifications planned, i would buy a rolling shell with a roll cage, and start from there.

Keeping in mind, $3000-$4000 accounts for a street legal car, that you can drive to the track in (comfortably), race, and then drive back home. If its a stripped out race car, then maybe a lil less say $2500.
