1990 IROC Z28 $9500

This is a whole bunch of stuff for $9500. It's fast, the handling is VERY tight, it sounds good, it stops on a dime, and frankly some days it's more fun to drive to work than my Viper.

This has been my wife's daily driver on and off since we bought it in 2001, but a friend is moving to Europe and giving us her car, and there isn't enough room in the garage for that and a few other vehicles on the way, so the IROC gets the bump. Not looking for trades, not looking for a lot of haggling. Scroll down past the picture for all the nitpicky details.

1990 IROC Z28 $9500

Vehicle is in Jacksonville, FL.

Aside from purchase price and other extras like stereo and wheels, recently I've spent probably $12K on the engine, transmission, and suspension. Mileage is 195K on the odometer, less than 2K on the engine, less than 250 miles on transmission (under warranty until August), less than 1000 miles on the suspension, less than 30K on the rear-end. Body is very straight and in good condition. Repainted in 2004. Makes over 300 RWHP (didn't go back to the dyno again after upgrading fuel pump; it leaned out at 300 RWHP around 3000 RPM so we stopped).

Engine -- 355 iron block, aluminum heads, ZZ4 cam, Bill Howell PCM, TRW forged flat-tops, plasma moly rings, stock rods (checked, ok), Eagle cast crank, Melling HV oil pump, Clevite 77 bearings, ARP main bolts and oil pump shaft, Summit double-roller timing chain, new GM valves & springs, 45# Viper injectors, heated O2 sensors, Walbro 255 fuel pump, SLP regulator, new motor mounts, Vette starter, Optima red-top, 1 5/8" headers, 3" stainless into a single 3" then back out to dual Flowmasters. Pretty standard. Sounds great.

Transmission -- mildly built 700R4 from Shifters in downtown Jax, 6 month warranty expires in August, Beast shell, Redline clutches, 0.50 boost valve & HD pump springs, wide bands (similar to a Vette)... I only know what about half of that stuff is, I'm just taking it from the Shifter's receipt. Suffice to say it's their heavy-duty 700R4 setup for daily-driver usage. I imagine the engine could blow it up, but I haven't felt compelled to try. Shifts fast and hard.

Suspension -- Vette calipers & rotors with braided steel lines (stock rear discs), new brake master cylinder, new ball joints, all new bushings throughout, Edlebrock springs front & rear, new sway bars front & rear, strut tower brace, new idler arm, new end links, new struts & shocks, SLP front spacers, 4th gen rear-end (3.23)... basically the whole thing is new underneath, front to back. It rides like it's on rails.

Other stuff -- Yokohamas with good tread left, Sportmax ***** wheels, most of the AC system was replaced in 2002, way-too-big stereo (Kenwood CD/MP3 head unit, pair of Alpine 12" subs, two amps, MusicKeg MP3 player, 6-disc changer, Boston Acoustics up front, Pioneers in the rear), Viper-brand alarm with remote door locks, mad tite brand new Momo steering wheel, power seats, power windows. Interior is in good shape for a car this old. Oh yeah, I have new AC vents for the interior -- if you know F-bodies, you know those need replacing every so often. Headliner was replaced around 2000, no sags. Tinted windows, although they could probably stand to be done again.

Only 3 pretty minor issues are worth mentioning -- 1. small oil leak from passenger valve cover; I've replaced the gasket twice, maybe it's the cover, I don't know -- its about two drops when you shut the car off, not enough that I worried about it much, 2. Water pump is leaking, I have a new HD pump that I haven't installed yet, it's yours with the car, and 3. I never got the alarm fixed after the engine swap. Probably like $50 at SoundAdvice or whatever, it just hasn't been high on my list.

There are also a few things owing to the fact that it's an 18 year old F-body (probably really 19 years by build date) -- power windows work, but they're slow; passenger power door lock is flaky, but it locks fine manually, motorized hatch pull-down is broken (again), so it's a manual hatch, no big deal. Little crap like that.

Send me a PM if you're interested.

Re: 1990 IROC Z28 $9500

Bump... Wife is in the process of stretching new vinyl on the dash (it had the typical F-body cracks), so that'll be nice and new-looking, too.
