1986-87 Camaro RS $1000 good deal or no?

ok so i didnt know where to post this thread so ill do it here. I AM NOT SELLING THIS CAR FYI!!! I came across what looks to be a 1986 Camaro RS w/ Lexan T-Tops and a 2.8 L MFI V6. I talked to the guy today and his daughter will take no less then $1000 for this car but heres the details:

174,850 miles
Lexan t tops are broken and cracked
Needs new passenger side front fender
Missing 1 left front I ROC rim
Engine electrical problem, will run sometimes, wont start other times
Interior is faded and will need replacing
New tires
Paint is in ok condition lots of oxidation on bumpers and hood
Spare set of tail lights
Automatic
Spare V6 engine and transmission to go with car
Transmission in car slips in drive gear, works good in 1-3 and reverse
No exhaust system from cat-back

This car does need some TLC and if i can get it to run ill prolly just swap motors and sell or keep for winter beater.

I told the guy his daughter was crazy and would give her $500 max. As i see it the car needs at least 2,000 just to get her back to a daily driver. Its a dark marroon color. What do ya all think? Is it worth it for 1000 or should i pass it buy and let someone else grab it up?

whats she originally asking?

what you can do is get like $900 cash and say "here, ill take it right now for $900. if you can do it now, call me when you can."
and i bet she'll call you within a day or two.

Well i was told that he has had many people stop and ask how much they want for the car, and he says his daughter was offered 1000 for it and she still wouldnt take the offer. Hes trying to make her get rid of the car as he doesnt want it in his yard and he knows that its not worth that much. I am going to start at 800 cash and my number and see what happens. He said hes going to see if shes interested in trading up instead, but he never said for what. i will post some pics of the car when i can get them. He told me to stop back in in a week or so to let me know if shes changed her mind at all or what the new offer is.

And he never told me what she really wants for the car, as she isnt actually selling it until someone gives her a good price... Its just sitting in his yard by the road and i just happened to notice that it hadnt moved in 2 weeks.

Sounds like nothing but a money pit.It has more negatives than it has positives going for it.I would definatly pass.Around here people will pay you 100-200 to take your junk cars away.

thats why i told him his daughter is crazy, im going to offer 200 dollars cash and then most likely if she takes it, i might try and get the orginal motor to run but if not, ill swap them and drive it till it dies then part it out... Or i may just part it out as soon i get it but i wanna see if i can make it a drive so i can stop putting miles on my T/A. The body is in great condition, no rust only underneath and the floor pans are still in great shape, its just everything else.

Re: 1986-87 Camaro RS $1000 good deal or no?

Honestly I'd rather start off with the car your selling me for $200 than this one. I payed $1200 for my own firebird, and while it needs work, it was only about $200 away from being daily driver capable (allthough now i'm putting alot more than that into it).

I just wouldnt pay 4 digits for a car that needs a tranny replacement AND electrical gremlins worked out AND sizable body damage. Just keep walking.

I am in no way will pay 4 digits for this car lol. The max im willing to pay is 200-350 if that. But if i can get it for that, and fix the electrical problem which once i find out for all the symptoms shouldnt be hard ( i went to school for engine overhaul/ engine electrical rebuild/heavyline) So i may be able to figure this out and get it fixed, if not my dads a 30+ year mechanic and can help me. I would do nothing special to this car cept drive it and beat the pos out of it. The part/scrap it once im done with it or swap motors and re sell. It may be worth it if i can get it for my price. Otherwise ill trade her if i have anything of mine she wants. Quite possibly my ATV im looking to get rid of. the only body damage is the front fender and my buddy who owns the car stereo shop can order me a new fender and w/ my discount should only cost me 50 bucks. But i may still walk anywho but i dont ever seem to come across deals like this except for when i got to trade my grand am for the trans am i have now! lol

Re: 1986-87 Camaro RS $1000 good deal or no?

I know what you mean, but I probably shouldn't have paid what i did for my firebird, even though I never see them for sale around here. Its sort of like walking into Wal-mart and seeing the "buy 100 for the price of 50" deals. You don't need it, you'll never use it, but it seems like such a good deal you fill up your cart with 100 tubes of toothpaste anyways.

Ya i know i dont need it, but when i send my car into the shop for exhaust work, and then when it goes away for 2 weeks for paint and body, the only other thing i will have to drive is a 84 ford pickup truck of my dads that has 368,729 miles and has never been rebuilt. only the body has been redone that me and my dad and i did in the barn. And being a plow truck its still reliable, but i could always make money off this deal by parting it out. so who knows.

I bought my 91 RS 3.1 for $900 with 62k original miles- only needed paint, an oil change, tires, and a good interrier detail. Now I just have problems that were caused by me, lol.

Hey unless your desperate for a 3rd Gen, $100 is good for the POS car.I mean really. Does it even sound right?
2, 2 much work, and to find the parts cheaply on EBAY and U-pull it yards, at least 2 years work. Imagine if you were to buy a skate board, 1 wheel, 2 bent axels, board bends so much in middle that it scrapes the floor, must staund in back cause front has a crack. LOL.......Does it even sound right?
