I am selling my 1982 Z. I found a low miles, almost new condition car while in the process of my 383 buildup and decided it was the perfect car to turn into a track star. The car had about 78000 on it when I bought it, I put less than 200 on it before going to work. The only goal I had with the engine was to make a high rpm screamer, which it does. On top it has a tunnel ram with 2 holley 450cfm 4160's, Trickflo 23 degree heads ported, polished, bowl blended and gasket match to the intake, 12.5 to 1 hyperutectic pistons, recond. rods, and a nodular iron stroker crank. The cam is a lunatic bracket master 2- 246/246 duration @.050, 108 deg. lobe seperation, 548 lift w/ the 1.6 ratio Trickflo roller rockers, and hardened pushrods. Ignition is by a crane PS92 coil and HI6 controller and Mallory Unilite mechanical distributor, with MSD superconductor plug wires. The oil pan is a 7 quart Moroso, water is pumped by a Weiand electric water pump and is cooled by a BeCool aluminum radiator. Also has an electric fuel pump and pressure regulator set at 7-8 psi. The trans is a Turbo 400 with a full manual valve body and 4000 rpm stall converter. Power gets to the stock 7.5" rear and 4:10 gears through a custom steel driveshaft. It has a B&M megashifter. Southside Machine subframe connectors are wielded to both ends of the subframe. I have two trans coolers mounted behind the front fascia, not sure of the gvwr on them. The guages are all Auto Meter ultralite series, including a 5" tach and speedo, 2 3/16" volt, oil pres., water temp., and fuel meters. The exhaust features Hooker Super Comp headers wrapped in DEI header wrap with 3" turndowns. A Crane vacuum reserve helps with the power brakes. The starter is a CSR mini starter.
The car starts right up, will idle at 900 rpm, and has NO bog when you mash the throttle. You cannot gas it fast enough to make it bog down, it simply climbs into the rpm range until its wailing like a banshee. The new engine has less than 20 on it, as I moved to Fl right after I finished it.
This car is in FANTASTIC shape, there is no rust anywhere, including the underbody, the factory undercoating looks like it did they way it left the factory in 1982. I bought the car from a friend who worked at Crevelli Chevrolet in Beaver, Pa. This car has been in the rain twice since it was made, the previous owner and myself always stored it in a garage. I felt very guilty about turning a perfect Z28 into a drag car, but the 165 horse 305 was too much of an insult to this car and had to go. There are about four small dings in the drivers side door from whoever parked next to it hitting it with their door. The rest of the body is in great shape. The paint is glossy with slight scratches. The interior is very good, with the exception of the trunk area. Chevrolet apparently painted the trim blue and it is peeling off in the hatch area.
I did everything possible to lighten it *** well. All unnecessary wiring has been removed, as well as unneeded trunk poppers, wiper motors, body panel caulk, floor mat insulation, etc.. The turn signals, brake lights, horn, back up lights all work so it remains somewhat street legal.(the cops may have issue with the exhaust or 10" of engine protruding from the hood, depending on where you live.) Tires have 60% tread left, and the rims are in good to very good condition. I have many more pics available.
It has a couple issues:
The fuel level sender needs replaced
The trans slips in 3rd gear. When I put the shift kit in, I replaced the springs in one of the clutch packs, and the retaining ring was a bit mangeled. I think it slipped off and needs replaced. Its still very driveable
The factory hood was damaged during disassembly(the nose got cracked), so I took a sawzall to it to make room for the air cleaners since it was a loss anyway.
It has way more power and way too little traction for a sane person to drive, which is why its so fun. I am asking $7500 for it. Really want to keep it, but its doing me no good 1800 miles away in Western Pa. I have a clean title and most of the receipts. The car is located in Darlington, Pa. Email or call with any questions. Will consider offers and trades.
