I have a 92 Z/28 Coupe (25th Anniversary Edition) equipped with the T-Tops and 5-speed manual transmission. It has power windows & locks, tilt & cruise, and the radio is the original AM/FM/Cassette that works. I purchased it as a trade-in where I worked as a salesperson in January of 2003 with 130,789 miles, and it now has 136,025 miles. Less than 500 miles of those miles have been put on it the past 2 years due to medical reasons, which is why it's for sale.
When the Maryland State Inspection was performed, all it needed was some exhaust work and an idler arm. When the exhaust work was done (I had a Flowmaster muffler installed), the pipe broke off at the catalytic converter so that had to be replaced.
The car has the original 305 TPI engine and the original transmission. I can't promise it's the original clutch, but it doesn't slip. The engine was flushed when the inspection was done, and nothing but Mobil 1 has been in it since. It does not burn oil and it does not leak. I was informed by the previous owner that it has a "chip", but I never bothered to have that confirmed.
In June of 2003 I had minor body work (front fascia was cracked) done, and I had it repainted the original "Brilliant Red" color as well as having all the seats reupholstered. This was due to faded paint, numerous scratches, and the stitching having come apart on the front seats. The top of the dash was cracked, so I purchased a "fitted" plastic dash cover for it and you can't tell it's there. The previous owner evidently had replaced the T-Tops because I had to have both of them re-keyed.
Other minor things I have done to the car are as follows:
replaced both tailight lense assemblies
replaced both rear tag light assemblies
replaced the front grille insert that goes around the fog lights
replaced both the front turn signal lenses
replaced the washer motor
replaced the rear security/cargo cover
replaced the power window motor (passenger side) in the spring of 2006
2 new tires on the front in the spring of 2007
new battery as of spring 2008
What's wrong with it?
The air conditioning has never worked and I never bothered to have it fixed or find out what it needed to be fixed because I never drove it unless it was nice enough to drive with the T-Tops off. The power window motor on the driver's side is going bad and will need to be replaced. The clear coat on the driver's side door edge molding (only) is coming off for some unknown reason. The rest of the paint is OK. I purchased a "Weathershield" car cover for the car which ripped earlier this springs, but I put tape on it to keep it together and on the car when not being driven.
As stated in the beginning, medical reasons have prevented me from being able to drive the car the past 2 years, and it's for sale to someone who can appreciate driving it.
Asking price: $3,800 or "best" offer

My wife has informed me that we have a 6 month insurance premium due the middle of this month and that we just received notification from Maryland Motor Vehicles that the tags are due for renewal the end of February.
With this being the case, I can save some money if the car has been sold by then so the new selling price is $3,600.
It's bad enough getting in and out of the Z/28 with the T-Tops off, but with them on it's even worse because the car is so low to the ground. It's starting to get bad getting in and out of my daily driver (Monte Carlo), and I may have to end up getting rid of that within the next year.
A '91 - '92 Z28 5spd with T-Tops? That's a package I haven't seen... sure it doesn't have a transmission swap or aftermarket T-Tops? '91-'92 Trans Am's are the only '91-'92 years that GM offered V8 T-Top manual packages... that I'm aware of.
According to the 1992 Chevrolet Camaro brochure, the T-Tops were available with the 5-speed manual. I know that the engine and transmission are original, but I can't stand firm on the T-Tops being factory. I tried getting information on the car from General Motors in 2003 when I bought it, but was informed that they only keep information for 10 years and that time period has passed.
I've been in the car business since 1988 and aftermarket sunroofs and T-Top additions were extremely prone to leaks because of the way the roof was cut. Back then the template was laid down and the roof was cut with a saw. The saw made the metal move and left sharp edges that didn't always get smoothed out. Now the roof's are cut with a torch and those issues don't exist.
The T-Tops on this Z/28 don't leak, but they will drip during a "heavy rain" right where they meet the glass on the doors. After having spoken to many people that own Camaros & Firebirds that have T-Tops, this is a common issue.
Since I listed the Z/28 for sale here at ThirdGen.org, I've had some great e-mails and phone conversations from those interested, which is a far cry from what I've experienced with eBay. I guess because the people here on this forum can appreciate the car the same way I have appreciated it, as I did with my previous "F" body cars.
Back in late November I had a guy on eBay place a $3,800 high bid that was $200 shy of the $4,000 reserve. This past week I had another guy that placed a $3,605 high bid against a lowered reserve price of $3,750. I contacted both bidders advising them they were "just" shy and to contact me but never heard from either.
I just turned 57 back in December, I have medical conditions that basically prevent me from getting in & out of the car much less being able to enjoy driving it, and I'm tired of fooling around selling it. With my 6 month insurance premium due later this month, and the tags needing renewal in February, I'm going to lower the price to $3,500 for ThirdGen.org forum people.

please send me some pics. i have some friends that may be interested. unfortunately it is a tough time of year being winter, sounds like it needs nothing. lapenna23@comcast.net.
I also had the car listed on eBay and I did receive a bid that met the reserve price I placed. When I contacted the bidder he advised me that he filed his taxes electronically and expected the funds last Friday on the 23rd. That didn't happen and I have given him until this Friday (the 30th) to come up with the funds.
I have several others from ThirdGen.org, and a few that responded from an advertisement placed on Vehix.com that are interested and want me to contact them if the guy fails to come through.

I did receive the notification here on ThirdGen.org that you sent me an email, but I checked and there was no email at my address theolderZ28guy@aol.com
To all interested parties.... The Z/28 listed here on ThirdGen.org is once again available to the first person that comes up with the money.
The car had also been listed on eBay and I had a guy in Pennsylvania that placed a bid meeting the reserve price set, but he advised me that he had filed his taxes electronically and was supposed to have had the money last Friday. It didn't come and I gave him until this Friday.
I received an e-mail from him this evening advising that he'd received notification from H&R Block telling him that the IRS had attached his check due to a local tax there in Pennsylvania that he hadn't paid in "9" years?

Just wanted to let you know that it ran fine all the way home. Here it is sitting in the driveway with its new stablemate. Also already fixed the power window.
I had no doubt the car would make it down there. I was more concerned about you getting stopped without a tag.
I must say that even though the medical issues prevented me from driving it, I do miss it. My grandson (who was in school when you were here) has even asked me a couple of times when I'm bringing the "Vroom Vroom" home.

Wasnt a "normal option" for the Z28 cars to have the 5spd with t-tops, BUT, as always, there were a few dealers that ordered them that way, and ofcourse the customer special orders... I know because mine came with it, and it was a special order which I have the print out of the original shipping invoice and build sheet...
im pretty sure that the 5 speed ttop cars were only a 305 motor not a 350 motor cause of the torc on the body chevy was afraid of bending the frame i think that the option with 350/ ttops / 5 speed was only offered in trans ams/firebirds!
I think it was the body not necessarily the frame. B/C the F bodies didn't have a bumper to bumper frame, it would twist the body. Know someone who had a 92 Z with the 350 and T's. He put a supercharger on it and his t's started leaking.
