1991 383 Z28...many modifications
1991 T-Top Camaro Z28 Originally 305 TPI, now carbed 383
169735 miles when original 305 motor was pulled back in 2006. I have put approx. 3000 on the new setup. The car sat for 4 years after the 305 was pulled before I got the 383 in and running (thanks college). The odometer and speedo are not functional because the stock units are run through the computer which was eliminated with the carb swap.
Exterior:
Paint is in good overall condition with the majority of wear on the front bumper. The car was painted about 8 years ago with a white base and Cadillac Pearl sprayed over top. The pearl is not heavy and looks amazing, especially under artificial light in the dark.
The antenna has been shaved and the door moldings removed for a cleaner look.
This car was from Ohio and has a little rust underneath but nothing major.
I have added a set of Sportmax 962, gunmetal 5 spoke wheels with a polished dish. Wheels are 19x8.5 in the front with almost new Federal 245/35/19’s. Rear wheels are 19x9.5 with Dunlop SP Sport 9000 285/30/19’s; lots of tread left.
Windows have been tinted by ProTint in Louisville, KY 20% with a lifetime warranty.
The windshield wipers are present, however, do not function because I removed the wiper motor from the engine bay.
I have the Z28 ‘grid’ taillights with blackouts as well as the current modified 88-90 tails.
Interior:
The interior is black and has had the carpet in the passenger compartment replaced a couple years ago.
The car has been gutted and does not have A/C, heat, front defrost or any duct work. My goal was to install an aftermarket heater such as the Flex-a-lite Mojave unit unit but never ran across the need for heat or defrost. For this type weekend cruiser I never used A/C either.
Rear defrost is still functional.
I have installed an aftermarket ‘D’ shaped steering wheel; horn buttons are functional.
Seats are aftermarket ‘racing’ seats to support 5 point harnesses which are also installed into the factory seat belt mounting points. Factory seat belts have been removed along with the rear seats.
I have replaced the factory center console with a much sleeker unit from a 4th gen (2000) firebird which contains a push button start.
The car is equipped with a Python aftermarket alarm system w/remote hatch release and I have two remotes for it.
Stereo consists of:
Sony CD/MP3 head unit with USB and Aux inputs
MB Quart 6x9’s in the rear powered with a small amp
Infinity Reference 3 ½” speakers in the kick panels
1” tweeters on the A pillars
Infinity Reference 5x7’s in the dash powered with a small amp
Chassis/Suspension/Exhaust/Brakes:
The car weighs approx. 3265 lbs. without driver with a half tank of fuel.
I have installed a ‘Wonder Bar’ on the car to brace the steering box.
Car has BMR strut tower mounts installed which have a ton of adjustment.
The car has been lowered with Intrax 2” drop springs.
The car has Tokico Illumina 5 way adjustable struts/shocks.
Exhaust consists of Headman 1 5/8” shorties (with re-usable DeadSoft aluminum gaskets) into a single 3” pipe (no cat) into a Raven muffler with dual exits. It tucks nicely.
Most suspension bushings are Poly, including the tranny.
The exhaust does leak where the driver’s header meets the y-pipe. The large oil pan I have does not give sufficient clearance for this setup to seal; ultimate goal was 1 ¾” long tubes which is what this motor really needs.
Brakes on the factory 3.08 10 bolt rear are the stock drums with newer hardware.
Front brakes are 12” C4 Corvette calipers with drilled/slotted rotors and Bendix Ti-Metallic pads with stainless brake lines are installed up front.
Motor:
The motor is a 2 bolt main, factory roller block that has been decked, line honed and bored .030”
Pistons are Weisco forged flat tops (two valve reliefs)
Rods are Eagle 4340 H-Beams
Crank is a Scat 5000 cast crank
Rings are standard (non-gapless) Weisco units
Comp Pro-Magnum 1.6 roller rockers
Trickflow 5/16” one piece, chromoly pushrods measured to correct length (7.150”)
Standard, double roller timing chain installed Dot to Dot
Cam is Comp grinds 3317/3318 with Comp 987 double valve springs
.540/.562 lift 242/248 @ .050 on 110 LSA
Edelbrock RPM Air-Gap intake
Summit brand 750CFM mechanical secondary carb
140 AMP alternator
Fluidamper balancer
Stewart Stage II water pump (CCW rotation for serpentine)
MSD 6AL
I have also installed stainless fuel lines from the factory hard lines to the new AFPR
High TQ, 1.9 HP mini-starter is also installed wrapped with a heat shroud
Oil pump is a high dollar Melling unit (standard pressure, 10% over stock volume); not your run-of-the-mill SBC oil pump
Oil Pan is a 6 quart, Moroso unit with interior baffle
Misc:
The battery has been relocated to the rear with a massive 2000 amp kill switch housed in a NHRA approved aluminum batter box (correctly vented). It was relocated using thick, 1/0 gauge welding lead. The car is grounded from the motor to the frame with a large 4 ga. ground strap as well as from the battery to the frame with 1/0 welding lead and finally from the battery directly to the passenger side head.
Two power distribution boxes are located in the engine bay.
The fan is a 16” 2400CFM straight blade unit strapped to a large, 31x19” 2 row (1” cores) aluminum radiator. With the Stewart water pump this car stays cool, very cool. An adjustable fan switch is wired in (but needs a new temp probe).
Transmission is the stock World Class T-5 unit.
The car has an aluminum driveshaft with a driveshaft loop installed.
The fuel pump has been replaced with a Walpro 255lph unit to support the new motor.
The plastic clutch slave cylinder has been replaced with an aluminum unit that cannot leave you stranded (it happened to me…).
This car is very fast and turns heads like crazy. It is not perfect by any means. I am going to miss my t-top cruises but do not have time for it (and my sportbike is faster…). The car has a vacuum leak from the lifter valley and has the exhaust leak mentioned earlier. The car will pull past 7000 RPM (currently the 6AL has a 7000 pill in) and has clocked a 8.5 at 86mph at our local 1/8 mile strip (with a 2.4 60 ft!!!); this is a mid-high 12 second car on street tires. This car has outrun C6’s on the track and street.
I have had this car since I was 17 and don’t want to sell it but you know how that goes…sorry for the novel.
$6500

Honestly I would love to buy your car. I paid 6800 for mine when I was 16 and the price your listing is such a great buy for the condition and the wa it was taken care of. If I had a way of getting to Kentucky I'd sell mine and buy yours. Can't ask for a cleaner engine bay good luck with it

I don't have many other pics of a finished interior and the car is 'in storage'. Is there anything specific you would like to see?

Re: 1991 383 Z28...many modifications
If it weren't for emissions I would have owned this car a long time ago. I'm shocked that it is still for sale myself. I like the stance and wheel and tire combo. The engine bay is spectacular.

The car has 4 matching 19" wheels (gunmetal 5 spokes with polished dish) but I have a set of older wheels that I put on for smokey burnouts!!!

How do you get those badass fog lights on? is there a switch or something? did you have to wire it up? I noticed it on the burnout video
