if gm had offered an ss thirdgen, what would it have?

just as the title asks. i'm curious as to what you guys would have had gm do to a thirdgen camaro had they offered an ss package. this could include ANYTHING.

Funny you should ask. I'm trying to build my firebird as I think it should have come from the factory. I'll turn on my signature.

Standard correction/unlocked 380RWHP, 371 RWTQ. SAE numbers are 370RWHP, 361RWTQ. Switched to MAP. At the motor that is 462HP SAE.

Then the next mod will be the TCI controller and the 4L60E transmission. At the same time the new AFR 195 Competition heads will be installed. Then with any luck a 11.99 time slip.

Re: if gm had offered an ss thirdgen, what would it have?

That's funny that this topic showed up. I was just drawing up plans for my next build to be some sort of promo, but not for an SS model, but if they were to make a third gen ZL1 model.
I think if they made a third gen SS it would probably have been limited by the years being made, probably just 1990 to 92. I'd imagine it with a early lt1 engine with the zf 6speed just like a vette. handling would probably be the same package as the z28 and irocs. The interior probably wouldn't change much aside from some better looking seats and a few emblems. Maybe have a better sound system.
Exterior wise it'd probably look like a z28, with ss emblems, the blistered hood, cowled an inch or two like a jongbloed would look awesome. Some newer 02 SS wheels with black painted inserts would look badass, along with bigger 11inch brakes front and rear. A wide body would be awesome, but doubtful unless wheels were like the vette zr1s, with an 11inch rear. Functional 91z groundeffects would be great ideas for brake cooling ducts. A similar stripe or two like the iroc's would look good, but be alittle higher on the door with SS running through the stripes on the 1/4 before the rear tire. I'm alittle unsure of which wing would go on it, possibly a taller 3 pc, 4 inches tall would be great and not so ductailish like the hawks spoiler.

I think that covers most of all. I tried to be specific but not so much as to my own plans for my next build.

Haha that would be nice.

that 454 prototype would have been sweet too, only if you didnt ever have to change the spark plugs.

Re: if gm had offered an ss thirdgen, what would it have?

would it have a 16" wheel or a 17" wheel. the 16" wheel has a pretty great tire selection that will help induce good handling without killing ride quality, but the 17's generally look bettery. which would you think?

at the time?

well, it would have the same engine as the L98... it would have SS badging everywhere.. along with some subtle mody mods.. likely a hood, spoiler and rim combo.

it would still be as slow as a stock L98...

it would be mostly cosmetic...just like the 4thgen SS

Re: if gm had offered an ss thirdgen, what would it have?

my rendition:

-l98 with more camshaft(though i'll be going with a Quadrajet for easy tuning)
-3" exhaust with a decent y-pipe
-5spd
-leather interior
-cd player
-lowered ride height with increased handling without sacraficing too much comfort
-sfc's (ttop car)
i'll be going with a fourth gen rearend and ls1 discs all the way around
-full a/c, heater, all power options.

what hood/spoiler/rim combo do you think i should go with though?
-right now i'm thinking of the stock 98 16" wheels, becuase i have them available to me. they would look good and wouldn't cost much. have a good tire selection available without being expensive to maintain.

Knowing GM, it'd be a base L98 car, with an SS hood, something along the lines of a Hawk's 5", and Chrome 17 IROC's.

the SS badge doesn't mean anything anymore. There's no more power to be had, etc etc. I bet it would be a FWD 4 door like a impala SS or monte carlo SS

Re: if gm had offered an ss thirdgen, what would it have?

Funny thing is my friend had bought these emblems that look like the stock RS ones, but they say SS. They are stainless backing, thick, with a perfectly matched logo just like the original RS ones. They are actually made much better. Ill try to get pics. He got them along time ago from a guy who made them on E-Bay. But could never find them again. To answer the question at hand. I think they wouldve had a 350 LT1 is offered in '92, a perked up SLP 350 and a possible T-Ram like the Firehawk. The 6-speed if they could do a console mod like the '92 Hawk had. Basically a 1LE with the luxury items instead of being spartan. Might have had the Z28 hood blisters but the RS spoiler....or a custom spoiler. Maybe some interior flash as well
