Re: camaro rs help

I hate online shopping....unless you can go see the car and inspect it yourself I wouldn't buy it. What about the title, and all of that? Carfax reports?

I don't know, maybe I'm old fashioned lol

It should be in great shape for that price? Dont rush into it, but if you really like it make a lower offer. Just my worth but, it's a v6 and worth less even with the price of fuel being what it is...

Re: camaro rs help

Well...if you want a Camaro to be fast...the V6 isn't doing it for you. I guess if Neons are more important that's your own deal. I am also 15 and just purchased a 1992 RS Camaro for $500 dollars, I attached a picture below. Mine also came with American Racing Wheels, so what do you mean when you say good tires? I don't really think the seats are a big deal, there are kits you can get to re-upholster them or you could just go easy and get seat covers. What color is the car? Any pictures of it? Inquire about the title, previous owners, how it was driven, and be solid about your price range. Different mods can increase value but he isn't giving very specific information, which makes me weary

What are your expectations? With $5K in hand you should be able to purchase a pretty nice 305 or 350 TPI car. Carb'ed Z's for a little less, and RS's less still. Keep in mind that most of these cars have both age and miles of use on them. Some, and there are plenty, have been ridden hard and put away wet.

What kind of fuel mileage do you expect to get? Are you okay with 15-24 mpg? Dont expect to get Honda Civic mileage out of any of these cars.
Maybe some others here get better numbers but my 3rd gens get a little less than 20mpg / highway. More like 15 avg.

If your still interested in finding a Camaro, I have a nice 305 91RS for sale. PM me if you'd like more details.

Good luck

Re: camaro rs help

Dude whats good mpg to you? I have a 305 that gets maybe 20-21 mpg on the highway doing 50 mph. Go above fifty lose 5 miles to the gallon, around town? I have a slightly heavy foot so thats not a good question to ask me. But if your that concerned about MPG, then maybe a rear wheel heavy v-6 or 8 isn't for you? Not being rude or mean, just want you to look at what your buying. As for me , I'll trade some mpg for my american steel, my best friend on the other hand has a subaru wrx, that gets better gas mileage AND is faster, and is all wheel drive. It's all what your looking at, and I love my car, thats why, again, I don't mind its short comings.

Re: camaro rs help

2300 seems way to much. I bought my 92 Rs For 2200 and its a 305/5 speed with 150k miles. much lower than 280k.

Re: camaro rs help

280K miles is a lot, even with the engine swap.

For 2300 i think you could get a better deal, but check it out first.

When you look at it, check for rust under the carpet, usually on the driver side.
also check the window seals. If the window doesn't match up right with the top, the car would most likely have water damage.
For the interior, I'm guessing if he has torn seats, he might also have a cracked dash and center console.
Many problems with the pull down latch seem to be with electric switches and wires. Replacing the motor may not fix the problem.

As for neon lights, if you really want them, you can buy them fairly cheap at an auto parts store, or even a Wal-mart (if you want)

Re: camaro rs help

now thinking about it look for an Iroc-z Around your area. It would be a MUCH better find. I forsee Iroc's being worth much more just like z28s later on. might as well buy something with the money you have that is alot better and around the same price area. (no offense to anyone.)

Re: camaro rs help

280K

the engine may only have 80k on it but the rest of it has been run.

I got my 91 rs for 1300 with 123k on it T tops that don't leak, straight body, no rust, paint decent, just the crappy GM peeling. all I had to do was drop in a 140.00 radiator.

So half the miles almost half the price I have a good car. not show condition but a nice clean car. Shop around. I betcha at that price it will be there for a while if you decide to buy that one.
