Got my L7's!!!!

Hey guys, just got finished installing the Kicker Solobaric L7's. I have to break the subs in (like any Kicker subwoofer) so I haven't had a chance to turn it up full yet but running a low gain, very low bass, and almost mid volume levels these things still rock. I can't wait to turn em way up Watcha think????

No problem. Kicker is the sh*t. my amps, components, and subs are all Kicker. I'm gonna be ordering your Kicker KQ5 5-band EQ. Thanks for the compliments.

Cool...looks like a greatbsystem you have there, that's for sure. The KQ5 or KQ30 would be a great inhancement.

Thanks! I figured I'd go with the 5-band because of the compact size and easy adjustability. Also I figured 5-bands should fit my needs since I have tons of adjustments on my headunit as well. Ya I picked out my system so I could have a great combo of SQ/SPL at the same time. I've been thinking about lookin into a sponsorship but I don't know how you guys handle sponsorship requests (like is their openings???) Thanks alot bro.

Full sponsorships are hard, and out of my area. Most people have to be in the KCG (Kicker Competition Group) to get full sponsor...shoot me an email sometime and tell me more about your car......

Are L7's like the old style solo's where they use a really small box? Would they work better ported? I'd like to add 1 in my trunk well just for some added low end. I don't want a rowdy boomer, but I'd like something clean. If at all possible I'd like to hide my amps in the well too. And were can I get one of those trends grills? That looks freakin' awesome!!!!! Oh yeah, very nice install....a bit too much for me though, I bet it kicks a$$!!!!

Hey bro the new L7's still keep to the Solo tradition for being good in small enclosures. I think they sound better in a sealed enclosure (ported sounded OK). Check out Godfather's Customs, that's where I got the Trenz grille

The W7's are awesome SPL and SQ woofers, work great in sealed enclosures. The L7's work better in high powered ported boxes. The W7's are about twice as much as the L7 MSRP.

Well I work at a HotRod Shop during the day called Wolfmans Rod Shop. http://www.wolfmansrods.com/ and at night I work at a restauraunt, Macaroni Grill. Ya almost every dime goes into my Z. It's my baby and my hobby.

Thanks alot man. Ya I would be afraid to show my face if I wasted money on a ford. Unless it's the one in our shop, 34' Ford, shaved handles, Centerline wheels (16 up front 17 out back) custom leather interior with all Dakota gauges, Alpine CD player in a roof console, and the best part, a 502 RamJet big block under the hood. Gotta love the Chevy Power. hehe. Thanks again guys.

Right now I'm running a Kicker ZR600. I plan up bumping up to the ZR1000. My buddy has one that he had in his 94' Z that he hardly uses cuz his car is always apart, lol. So I might pick that up, but these things jump like crazy with the 600, lol.

Yea my setup isnt done yet. I got all kicker also. I am going to be getting anoter 2 kx1200.1 was thinking of a new box where i could fit 2 10L7's and the 2 12L7's i got now in my car. with 3 kx1200.1 amps. and still have enough space for small stuff in the trunk and i came up with a great box that will work. might be done by next year. fiberglass.

I seen some of those in some green vehicle at a bass comp this weekend. He had 3, each on a HUGE kicker amp, each amp was like $1500 apeice, but he only hit about 150 or so, he got beat out by 4 planet audio 12" and 3 X-Max 12". The JL W7's did horrible. I dunno what he had wrong, but he only hit 142 or so. He had 2 W7's on a JL 1000 watt amp w/ a 15 farad cap. Thought he would do way better. But those X-max's were in a 3rd gen, and they POUNDED. He got beat by .1 dB by those 4 planet audios. I hadn't ever heard of x-max until then, what bout you people?

Hey bro I wouldn't suggest mixing the sizes. Now putting different size up front (like custom door panels to house 8in subs) would sound good but from my experience, mixing sub sizes in the same area (hatch), sound awful. Mainly because the 12's will overpower the 10's,which will end up being mostly useless but they will be hitting at different speeds also since a 10 can hit faster than a 12. And with the 12 tryign to hit the same fast note as a 10 it doesn't sound to good. That's just my opinion but sounds like you got your ideas flowing. Once you get it finished I'd like to see some pics. Thanks alot bro

RamAirz: I plan on having a 15" L7 and 2 8" CompVRs in the back. You're right that mixing sizes will give you a muddy sound, but that's only if all the subs are trying to push the same frequencies. With a tasty crossover in the mix (AudioControl, etc), I'm looking at 0-50hz for the L7 and 50-150hz for the two CompVRs. And since I'm not going for all out decibels, the louder of the sets (probably the L7) can be turned down to keep from drowning out the others.

This is all a plan I have going for me, but here's a question. Right now I have 2 Infinity Kappa 10"ers. I LOVE the sound they put out; it's such a smooth clean bass. I'm still aiming to get a really good frequency response. How does Kicker perform in that area? More specifically with my setup? I want a flat response like what I have now, just louder. Any input?

Well with your setup, the Comp VR and the L7 are 2 different sounding subs, but both have great sound quality and very good SPL. The L7 will rock the crap outta ya, and I honestly think even with your setup it will drown out the 8's. If they are moved closer to the front where they can travel to your ears quicker it would sound sweet. Honestly the sound your looking for, I don't think you should go as big as a 15, that's just straight out bass, I think a 12 would be a better mix to get what your going for. Just my .02 cents

Nah man, I NEED those extra 2 or 3 hz down. I talked to rezn8r about building a box for it; he said he built a setup similar and it sounded great. The 2 8's are going to be mounted a little bit forward-facing, with the 15 facing up, so that should balance out the delivery. I'll throw the 6x9s in the trash, get some nice components for the kickpanels (6" and tweeter), maybe custom mount little components in the 4x6 spots, and I'll be set.
BTW, what's the difference between SPL, SQ and all that mumbo-johimbe??!

SQ stands for sound quality and SPL is Sound Pressure Level (which is what you want if your going for a bass competition). The reason I say the 15 is too much is that a 12in L7 will rock hard!! And it would be plenty and sound better. But that is my opinion.

I looked up the 12" a little more and compared it to the 15". You're right, it most likely will perform just about the same as the 15. Still, I'd love to see someone's eyes pop out when they see that huge 15 in between two 8s. It's more about bragging rights than anything, I think. LoL

Hey, what did you cover your box with? It looks like a vinl material. It looks slick. I also like the chevy thing, is that an amp box or just a cover? Looks good, and bet it sounds good too.

I covered it with a leather material, same material used on my seats. Yep, that is my amp rack, the ZR600 is hiding underneath there with my capacitor. And a neon lights upi the Bowtie at night too Thanks alot. Ya, the 12 L7 will hit plenty good for your setup. Goodluck which ever way you choose bro.

love the blue bowtie. The square speakers have more surface area than round speakers the same size. I'm sure they rock!
