Which one is better i can not decide which service i want to get. I know some will say XM some will say SIRIUS but i need to be convinced on which side of the force to go to.

XM has the best service that I've ever had.

Sirrius I'm sure is just as good, just not as popular as XM.

Remember in the early 80's, they had the war between VHS & BETA? Well that is the same thing that is going on with XM & Sirrius. I'm thinking that XM is winning the battle & in about 5 years you won't even remember what Sirrius is.

XM does out number sirius in subscribers, they have 2,000,000 while sirius has 800,000, and they are both still growing, but sirius is out numbering xm in sales, six to one to be exact.

I thought XM was better until i herd sirius. Its kick a$$, trust me, i work in the car audio department at best buy... i listen to it all day.

I gotta say my vote goes to Sirius. I listen to mostly metal and hard rock and I can say I like Sirius alot better. Hard Attack :hail:

Not really apples to apples there. Beta was the superior format, VHS was more popular and established, Beta couldn't catch up.
My vote goes to Sirrius, just seem to like the selection better. Both are close though. This one will come down to advertising advantage as they both came out allot closer together.

I want one that will last and have better radio selection. I know that Howard Stern signed with SIRIUS. I wish they made 1 unit that would accept both signals then i would nto be in a debate with what one i wanted becasue i could awalys switch.

VHS survived cause they wouldnt let BETA be used for porn, no joke. Does anyone that has Sirius know if there is an industrial channel of any kind, thats the only thing I dont like about XM is that they dont.

Sirius has NFL games and Howard Stern. I have to say that they are better and will not be going anywhere with these two.

Beta was efore my time but i remeber hearing that BETA was made by sony and that they would not let anyone use there technology so all the other electronic companys combined forces and made VHS to combat BETA.

There's only one factor in determining your choice.

Sirius will have Howard Stern (eventually)

it's tough to tell which will come out on top now. I have XM and got it almost entirely for O&A. The next day Howard announces he's going to Sirrius. I say XM is better because it's easier to spell! lol. I figure how much longer can Howard possibly broadcast and be relavent for? he is about 50 now. O&A are getting sicker and therefore better by the day. As for music, I'm not too impressed with XMs rock stations, but I haven't heard what the other company has to offer.

well ever since howard stern announced he was going to sirius, their sales have quadrupled...!!!!!! and their about $3 cheaper a month.... my girl has xm in her caravan and i have sirius in my ride.... both are good and sound good..... i got sirius because they just came out with a walkman satelite radio at best buy!!!! small and portable, about the size of a pager and u get all those stn's on your hip!!!!!

Actually, I thought Sirius was $13 a month and XM is $10. Also, XM just came out with a walkman type unit called the MyFi. I didn't hear about Sirius coming out with a similar product.

maybe sirius is more, i paid for the whole year so i have to check the credit card statement.......

go sirius and dont look back, trust me youll be making the right decision.
sirius does have a portable player, the xact jocky, but its has to plug into a power dock and it is very VERY big and bulky, i have to say xm did do a great job on the MiFi but its just a matter of time before sirius has its own sleek unit.

Well i decided on SIRIUS. I look forward for my XMAS gift next week.

After having XM for about a year now, and hearing the sirius display in electronics (at wal-mart, were I work) I'm going to switch to sirius when I get by bird back on the road. (using an indash CD player with sirius built in.) XM is 9.99 a month, sirius is 12.95 (basicly 10 and 13 as stated previously. However if you pay yearly, its actually cheaper both ways.)

Isn't the Sirius unit like twice as big as the XM?

They are both about the same size.

If you get the type that you can plug into a car kit or home kit, does that count as one receiver or two? My dad's interested, but doesn't want to pay the additional monthly fee for an extra receiver and I don't know how that situation works.

I sell Sirius at my store, i listen to it every day, i havent bought it for my self yet, sense i have new modles comming out in the next few months, but basicly, if u like nascar, go with XM, Football howard stern, more channels, sirius.

I will admit i have listen to most of the channels on XM, but that was a few months ago.

Also my Kenwood Head unit is a sirius only capatiable unit, so kind of narrows what i can get installed in car to look consealed.

Both companies have portable units, home/car/boombox

Ok i got it today the antena seems to have to be by the windshield. When i was in the the grague i had no signal. Anywyas what station numbers are good.

Mine is under the privacy screen, and works fine until I hit an underpass. Will even work if I'm sitting in the car at night with the cover on (I need a home unit so bad... but not bad enough to warrant $400).

RawDog (147) is the comedy you want to listen to. The other comedy channel I felt was lame.

For rock I listen to Octane, Hard Attack and the Garage station (I forget what its called).

Wife got me the MyFi for Christmas. It's awesome. I had it in her car the other day, carry it to work everyday to listen on the bus and then hook it up to my home stereo at night. Being that the Iroc is hibernating, I am considering where and how I should set this up when the winter freeze is over.

The whole XM vs Sirius stuff is personal preferrence. Neither one is going away. Take a look at Dish Network and DirectTV. Same deal.

I got XM for Christmas also (SkiFi2 and a car kit). One thing that was kinda disapointing was the fact that the antenna has to go on the outside of the car, so you have a wire running up and out of your doorjamb to the antenna on the roof. That looks like *** and is asking for someone (or the carwash) to rip it off the car.

I temporarily put mine on the dashboard, but I get signal interruptions now and then. Plus, I have another wire dangling from the SkiFi2 (besides the power plug). I'm hoping they come out with an interior glass-mount XM antenna eventually.

I would recommend checking out the "unofficial" sites to learn all the stuff that they don't tell you at Best Buy. For example, I was all set to buy the XM boombox for my garage, but after reading all the problems with it, I decided not to. The 2 biggest XM sites are:XMfan.com and XM411.com I'm sure Sirius has similar sites.

I have sirius. I wondered if anyone had reception problems. I have my antenna under my spoiler. The stations fade in and out. It could also be my antenna. Should i try roof mounting the antenna?

I have mine on the dash so i can switch from cars but my reciption goes out when i go under a bridge or tree.

The spoiler being solid will definitely block the antenna. It needs a clear path above it.

As I stated before, try underneath the hatch, near the rear edge of the gas tank hump. I get good reception there and it takes a moderate obstruction to block the signal. Anywhere in red (on either side) will do, even with the cargo cover on.

I have XM and Sirius, I listen to XM in my Trans AM and at the house and I have sirius in my chrysler 300M which was stock with the GPS Radio. I actually like both, but if I had to choose one, I would choose XM, just because I am more into HIP-HOP, RAP and I find XM to be better in those areas.

I was about to ask about this, and there's my answer!!

I prefer XM over Sirius. I have both my Dish Network includes Sirius but I prefer the music on XM. I put XM in my GSX since that is the car I drive most of the time. One thing I learned though is that the Pioneer AVIC-N1 can't use those Terk direct link systems. I bought them only to find out the AVIC uses a different language so I had to buy the Pioneer GEX-910XM tuner to make it work. Still no commericals on my way to work rocks:rockon:

I like sirius they have good music and from going from am/fm to sirius i am very happy with the quality of music and programs.

I've heard both and considered both, but I finally went with Sirius.

XM has more subscirbers, but it makes sense because they've been around longer.

I miss the fact there is no 1940's music station on Sirius and they don't have Nascar. XM also has two "old radio show" channels while Sirius only has one. (This stuff was *way* before my time, but I kind of like the old music and radio dramas It's a change.

The satellite configuration for XM and Sirius is different.

XM has two satellites with circular geostationary orbits parked over the equator. They appear fixed in the sky and because of that you always have to have a good view of the south sky.

XM has three satellites in geosynchrounous orbit. The orbits are at angles to the equator and they're eliptical.

The long and short of the Sirius satellites is that they appear to move. They are frequently right over north america and for most of the day, there is one to the north over northern Canada and another to the south somewhere between Mexico and the equator.

If you live in a place with no terrestrial repeaters, you don't have to worry about having large buildings or mountains to the south of you blocking the signal. There is almost always a satellite to the north as well providing a signal.

Sirius also has free internet streaming of their music channels for members.. There is no extra cost for this. YOu can listen to Sirius anywhere you have a computer with a connection to the internet and a sound card.

All and all, I think the difference between XM and Sirius is like the difference between Coke and Pepsi.. Do some research and choose the one you like.....

Yeah, good luck with that. I never reeived the "Welcome Kit" and attempts to get one from customer cupport following their instructions have failed to produce one.

My vote would definantely be for XM. Come on, who wants that big ole reciever for sirius in their nice 3rd Gen. XM's has to be about 1/2 the size of Sirius. I also like XM and it's station better and I've listened to both plenty. The other plus for me with the XM is that the orange from the XM matches everything else that lights up except for my radar(Passport Blue X-50,my second love)

If so, you want Sirius. You can listen free on the 'net at sirius.com. To do the same at xmradio.com , you need to pay an extra $3.99 quarterly (15.96/year).

I think either one is fine; make the decision based on what your radio supports. I've got Pioneer so XM is my only choice; unless I hold out until Pioneer makes their Sirius receiver - they announced it, but I'm not sure when it comes out. It's a smart move; then Pioneer will support both companies- and I think they're the first to do that thru the radio (meaning true digital sound, no FM modulator garbage).

Plus I believe Sirius actually has 4 satellites; one stays on the ground in case one of the "in orbit 3" breaks- then the fourth would go up.

IIRC some of Kenwood's current units support both XM and Sirius.

Oh man I hope this is true, Ill look later but I hate to stick with Pioneer, while nice it is very picky about scratched cds. I wanted a Kenwood since theyve always played the worst of cds but I didnt want to change from XM.

That's why I don't scratch my CD's

JVC headunits can use either XM or Sirius... I bet you could rig it to use both

I got the sirus sportster so it has the FM modulator in it so i can use it on any car stereo i want i jsut have to tue it to 88.7 or a channel that isnt being used. The sound of it is just as good as a CD.

Im still waiting for my welcome kit too i want to listen to sirus while im at work on my computer. Maybe ill call them this week.

My deciding factor was 12.95 a month for sirius and it is a flat fee. But XM was all an extra 3.95 for this channel and that channel i thought that was very money greedy and they might start chargeing for more and more channels i didnt see any of that with sirius so thats why they got my money.
