Delco Bose Speaker System Going Crazy!!!
I have the delco bose gold series speakers. I was driving down the street tonight listening to the radio and all of a sudden my speakers go crazy and start to humm and buzz real bad, i turned off the radio and it still kept doing it, i tried turning down the volume and nothing worked. Does any one know what might be going on?

There's a relay that powers the amps. It may have gone bad.

you can also hear the sound of the engine in the speakers, like the humm of the engine or alternator.

Try hooking your radio and speakers up in another car and see what happens. My old ones did the same thing but i just tossed them. I should have done that anyways (roadmasters)

Re: Delco Bose Speaker System Going Crazy!!!
Sounds funny but if you had a cell phone near it it could be the cell phone the waves do something to speakers even if there's no power. Just a thoght before you start ripping out stuff.

The Bose system has amps for each speaker. They're powered through a common relay though. I'd look there.

Re: Delco Bose Speaker System Going Crazy!!!
My crappy Nextel phone I use for work does that all of the time. Alarm clocks, computer speakers, my car stereo, it doesn't matter. It even messes up the mouse and computer screen. I now keep it away from all electronic equipment (and my body)

Re: Delco Bose Speaker System Going Crazy!!!
See about swapping things out to test, but one at a time only
Like bypass the amp and see if it plays normal.
If it still persists, it could be in the head unit or the wiring itself

Re: Delco Bose Speaker System Going Crazy!!!
A few years ago mine in my car started this. GM does not reapiar or carry any replacements for the speakers. I called a local stereo cahop they advised me that they can get them rebuilt not new adn the cost best to my memory was 180-290 range per speaker. They told me that the amps are built onto the speaker that is why they are so expensive. I left all mine in and put 2 speakers int he dash two in the sail panel area and 2 6x9 in the trunk well with an amp on them. By the way bose cant help you either. Hopefully this helps you out.

I got rid of the bose in my iroc and my corvette and went with a kenwood KDC-X990 and infinity kappa speakers in the factory bose enclosures and it ROCKS. Infinity rules.

Re: Delco Bose Speaker System Going Crazy!!!
while driving about 7 yrs ago mine went nuts--loud as hell high pitched sound and humming--volume **** had no effect on sound. turning it off stopped it but when you turn it on it went to max noise-has nothing to do with my cell etc as I have had it in 2 parts of the country and at 4 different locations. Local shops just want to sell me a new system and mechanics say not their speciality dunno

Re: Delco Bose Speaker System Going Crazy!!!
Hearing the engine in the speakers is called "EMI". You need to check your wiring and make sure its correct. In my grandam when i got my new radio, when i turned the lights on, i had steady bass untill i turned the car off and restarted it.

Re: Delco Bose Speaker System Going Crazy!!!
Pull your Bose radio out and, with power still connected, hook up an alternate speaker to each of the output leads. This will tell you whether it's the radio or not.

Re: Delco Bose Speaker System Going Crazy!!!
Naf: does the Bose unit have power or are the speakers self powered? I was thinking that they were self amped..so I need another bose speaker to try this? Definately a starting point and will try this very soon.

Re: Delco Bose Speaker System Going Crazy!!!
the radio in a bose system sends out a preamp signal to the individual amps, which amplify the sound going through the speaker. if you hook it up to normal speakers, you will get very faint and barely audible sound out of it. what could have happened, as mentioned before, is the relay under the dash that powers the amps went bad. or, your head unit went bad. or all 4 of your amps crapped out all at once, which is hard to believe but knowing the system, it can happen. back when gm and bose started this joint venture, bose had no experience building amps for a car. car amps are special because they endure bumps in the road, running nearly every second the car is on, and have to endure sub-zero temps and 100-plus degrees temps. this can wear them out. the most common problem with the amps i have heard of is one of the resistors on the board cracks open, and stuff oozes out. this causes a short, and the board goes bad. there are many places out there that can rebuild bose amps, as well as the radio. a quick google search will reveal this. bose will rebuild them, but they cost a small fortune. if need be, find a reputable aftermarket place and have them do it.

Re: Delco Bose Speaker System Going Crazy!!!
it should be up underneath the dash. i don't know exactly where it would be on a car that came factory with the bose system; i put mine in my car so i plugged the wiring into the connector that was behind the HVAC controls on the center console. the relay may be around that area, perhaps by the block under the dash that has the buzzer and some relays, and that is on the driver's side, under the dash, next to the center console.
