Amp/Reciever: Weak Sound
I just purchased a Sony CDX-GT520/52W and am having trouble getting my subs to work properly. I have a Pyle 1400 - watt amp with 2 x 750 watt Dual subs. I have connected all wires: 12 volt amp turn-on wire, rca's, speaker wire, and ground. The amp comes on green so I know it powers up correctly.
Here's the thing though: I connected a rca-speaker wire converter to my back speakers and the sound comes out fine, but its when I connect my rca's directly from the sony cd player that it gets weak. You can barely hear any sound when volume turned up high. It has 3 x preouts: Front, Rear and another. I tried all three and all come out weak. On one occaision the sound came out partically with only one rca cable connected.
I hope this isn't confusing...if anyone can help it will be much appreciated.

Re: Amp/Reciever: Weak Sound
From what I understand, you have the Sony CD head unit.
You also have a Line Output COnverter
Your Sony CD player has RCA Outputs
If you connect the RCA's from the Sony Head unit to the Pyle AMP, the
signal is weak?
Question 1:
What model / brand is the RCA-Speaker wire converter?
Question 2:
Why do you have a converter if the Sony has RCA outputs?

Re: Amp/Reciever: Weak Sound
Thanks for the reply. I don't know what the model of the converter is, I purchased it from ebay. The reason I had it was because I used it to connect the subs to my stock radio before I got the sony cd-player (just recently).
I was just outside playing with it: when connected through either the line converter or the front/rear rca outs, you can hear the subs a bit, but when the volume is turned up the bass becomes really distorted and sounds terrible. I know the subs work because they worked fine through the line converter on my old stock. It wasn't until I tried hooking them up through the sony thing that this started happening...

Re: Amp/Reciever: Weak Sound
I don't believe you need the line converter any more.
Just run RCA cables from the Sony unit to the amplifier.
The line converter is used to attenunate speaker output levels from the
head unit, down to line level signals.
Since the Sony already has line leve outputs (the RCA connections),
you can simply eliminate the converter.

Re: Amp/Reciever: Weak Sound
I have tried it without the converter and when I did the sound came out weaker than it did with the converter. I had to turn up the volume to 15 or so just to begin hearing the bass. This is with the front and rear outs. There is a third rca out but when I tried that one there wasn't even any sound.

Re: Amp/Reciever: Weak Sound
Can you take a picture of your amp, and the converter?
If yes, make sure you snap a shot of the settings on the amp., and how the
speaker is wired, etc.
What is the model of the Pyle Amplifier? Is it this one?
http://www.audio-discounters.com/pla-2380.html
To help me understand further, is this the chain of connection?:
Sony Head Unit > RCA output > RCA Input > Amplifier > Subs
Do you have the front speakers connected to the head unit, or the Pyle,
or another amplifer?

Re: Amp/Reciever: Weak Sound
I have enclosed 3 pictures displaying 3 sides of my pyle amp. I'll post a pic of the converter in my next post. The front and rear speakers are connected to the head unit using the wire harness in the back.

Re: Amp/Reciever: Weak Sound
From what I see, you don't need that converter.
The RCA's from the Sony should go directly to the RCA inputs of the Pyle
amplifier.
You should also put spade connectors on the power leads of the amp.
If those bare wires touch, you'll smoke a fuse.

Re: Amp/Reciever: Weak Sound
Thanks for the advice, I really appreciate it. I will try to re-connect the rca's straight to the sony tomorrow when it's lighter outside. Also I'll try to find those spade connectors online. A couple of times a few sparks flew by accident, you are right. I should check those fuses just incase.
I'll connect it tomorrow and post again to let you know how it worked. Thanks for your help.

Re: Amp/Reciever: Weak Sound
My friend had a Sony CDplayer, you have to be sure to go into the set up menus and make sure the subwoofer is turned on. That will energize the third set of pre-outs. Also be sure there's no seat rail or the like on top of your RCA if they are under the carpet, pinching them under something like that will ground them right out. Also double check the pre-outs and make sure you run it to the subwoofer-out, that will allow you to use the built in bass controls in the unit.
