What size speakers can fit in the dash? Depth-wise???

I know the 4x6 and 4" speakers can both fit in the dash but I was wanting to install these infinitys and crutchfields website states they wont fit but does not say the maximum depth... Does anyone know what it might be? If these wont fit anyone have some suggestions for good speakers that will or a way i can make em fit?

you can always use a heat gun and a dremel to try and make them fit, but it depends on the year and model. what car do you have? (obviously a third gen, but which one?)

1.75" I think is the mounting depth. you could also use crutchfield to select your car.

like one or two threads down in this forum said an 89 has 1.75. Also, maybe post the speakers you're thinking about, and you can see if anyone else had issues with it. and Crytical. We have like the exact same car basically. And we both live in fl. Don't you love heat+our cars?

Yea. The depth is not much at all, and from what I read, Firebirds have it even worse! I had to sell a set of two way 4x6's because they just wouldn't fit. I'd agree with the 1.75". With a depth that small, might as well go to walmart and get they're guaranteed factory fit Kenwood speakers. It'd sound better than stock at least.

Re: What size speakers can fit in the dash? Depth-wise???

I know that 82 to 92 Camaros have a depth of 1 7/8inch stock and after market is 1 5/8 inch deep. This will cover just about all dash mount. Almost all speaker makers use the 1 5/8 inch deep. So realy all you need to do is find the brand you like and install. I have noticed that dash speaker room is tight in every 3rd Gen I have installed in and that would be a lot of them. Just take your time when going in with them.

Re: What size speakers can fit in the dash? Depth-wise???

FWIW I have an older set of Eclipse 4x6 2-ways and the driver side speaker magnet hits the plastic where the gauge cluster slips into. I need another 1/4" for them to sit flush and could have easily gained that by hacking away at the surrounding plastic.

I did not want to do that, however, and even though they sit up the dash pad fits overtop just fine. Sorry I do not know the mounting depth....worthless info without that.

So, even though Crutchfield may not say they fit you can be creative with different choices at your discretion.
