Stereo Upgrade!!!

Just decided to fill the ,long empty, speaker holes in my camaro. This was not your usual swap. the first owner felt the need to hack 6x9 holes in the top of the dash pad. and when i say hack i mean hack lol. With newer speakers having bigger magnets nothing new would fit, so i decieded to fab up some plexi pieces to convert it to a 6 ich component Kicker. compared to the old 6x9 this looks and should sound WAY better. anyhoo
LEt me know what you think!

Re: Stereo Upgrade!!!

looks good!
Like a professional install, and matches very well.
Too bad they hacked up your dash pad. Took me months of checking with the local yards to find one in decent condition.

Re: Stereo Upgrade!!!

You're on the right track. Good luck in finding a good dash pad.

that is what they mean when they say "if life gives u lemons make lemonade"

unforetunatly your dash is the second worst I have seen. When I worked at this one stereo shop we had a kid come in who notched out his dash pad to fit 6x9 boxes so while he was driving he was looking straight at the speaker and not so much at the road.

Oh wow. That's bad. I guess he didn't see the price tag for a new dash pad before he cut it up

Not really, while I like the craftsmenship and effort , he had actually had three choices:

1. Do it the way he did, by adding a component set to the dash and cover up the holes.

2. Put a carpeted dash mat over the dash

3. Buy a used replacement dash pad, you can get them all day long on eBay for around $150 shipped, and those are usually pretty mint at that price.

I think I would have chose option #3, in my opinion if your going to "fix" the problem, do it right the first time. I would have saved the 6.5" component set for the doors or kickpanels.

Not trying to be an ***, just my honest opinion and what i would do if it were my car.

i know what you are saying, i am not personally a fan either but he wants some tunes and doesnt want drop cash on a new dash. personally i would have gotten a new dash pad too.

i was just thinking, did you try flushing the tweeters rater than usng the pods? It would look a little cleaner plus i bet having the tweeters in your face is a little bright, are those the new ks or are they the ds?

Re: Stereo Upgrade!!!

The speakers are just the DS. and i could have flushed the tweets but that would have required more cutting and i didnt exactly want to keep hacking into the dash. I'm not the biggest fan of the look either but i only get to drive the car a few months out of the year. so with some thinking this was the best ballance of look and cost.
