Re: aux install in stock radio

One of the better, cheaper options you can do is pick up an fm direct modulator. They sell them at best buy for 45 bucks, and they typically only have them out back in the install bay. The way it works is the antenna going into your radio plugs into this box, and then an antenna lead runs from that back into your stock radio. Then the box has rca inputs on it, so you just have to get an rca to aux cable, which is anywhere from 5-10 bucks from best buy. Then the box just needs to be tapped into an accessory and a ground wire. Then you just run the aux piece out to wherever you like. (i've ran it into the ashtray on a few camaros). The unit has an audio sensing switch, so it turns on once you plug the aux cord into your mp3 player and start playing audio. Only other thing is if you have an 88 or new cam/ta, you may need a gm antenna adapter and a reverse antenna adapter.

I install at least 2-3 of these things in all different types of vehicles per week, they work really well, and its a cheap alternative to adding an aux input on a stock radio. Especially with an older radio like your car, where there isn't to many aftermarket options for a stock radio.

Re: aux install in stock radio

There is nothing on the website, but i will go to work today and get you the model number and everything you need for it. Like I said, its really good quality, and as long as you can get behind your radio, its really simple to install, especially in a camaro.

I'm not sure what the aux install is, but in the end this will give you a headphone jack to plug into anything with a headphone jack input. As for sound quality, its actually really good. Most people who buy into it are hesitant at first, but are sold completely once they hear the quality.

Re: aux install in stock radio

I picked one up off of e-Bay with an auxiliary jack already installed. This is the description of the jack and how it works from the listing....

"It then had a 3.5mm aux input jack installed in the faceplate, which is a direct link to the amp, with all new electrical connections soldered inplace for dependability. The unit now has the ability to play virtually any portable music device which features a headphone jack and without having to rely on a fm transmitter cassette adapter, or dummy cassette. All of the radio and tape functions perform just like a stock unit and work perfect as well as the control knobs and buttons.

Here is how the aux jack works. When you put the 3.5 mm plug into the jack from your IPOD, MP3, or portable CD player, it cuts the radio signal going to the amp. Which allows the signal from your device to play through the radio's amp and then to your speakers."

You can see the jack in the upper right hand corner.

I'll contact the guy who sold me mine and see if he can retrofit one into your unit. Would that work?

You can always remove the faceplate and paint the backs of the buttons to a color that matches. Really easy to do.

Sorry guys. This was his response: " Im sorry but I keep plenty busy with the radio`s that I sell here on ebay and don`t really have the time for side jobs."

I'm sure there's someone out there who can figure it out. A half hour with a soldering iron and a jack should do the job.

Re: aux install in stock radio

I have a base Delco stereo with an input jack like that. I wish my UT4 had one though.

Just an idea, but a friend of mine has one of those Garmin GPS units that will store mp3's. There is a station that he can program into his GPS that will play through his truck radio antenna and doesnt require any wiring to the stereo at all. I'll ask him more about it the next time I talk to him, it's pretty neat.
