The factory Delco radio/CD on my '91 has locked up and only displays 0:00. The previous owner put a new battery in just before I bought it and when I went to look at it, the radio was locked up. Is it possible to unlock it, and if so how? I checked the manual and it said something about a six digit code but I don't have a clue what that number is. Is there any way to reset this or am I out of luck?
Chevy dealer might be able to help you out on that. I know there is a back door way to unlock a 4th gen radio so i would assume that you could do it as well with a 3rd gen radio, but i am unaware of the technique to do so. Contact your local GM dealership and they should be able to help you out. Be prepared to get charged an arm and a leg for the unlocking. After that i hope the CD player works...
Best of luck,
Jon

92 Heritage RS Camaro, one of ~8200 in counting, will hopefully be running in time for NYThirdGen 4th of July car cruise on Deer Park Ave, LI.
UPDATE - I cannot retrieve the codes from my radio to get it unlocked because it only reads 0:00 and the volume bar triangles are at about six. I have tried the button pressing sequence to get the radio code, but the display will not change from 0:00. Am I out of luck or is there something else I can do?
Jason.......Does your radio say LOC ?????????
OR when your going thru the unlock procedure I sent and when
you go thru the procedure it then shows 000 on the display?
When it shows the 000 this is when you punch in the "code" number.
The code you must punch in is in the instructions I sent.
The radio itself does NOT give you the codes!
The code just unlocks the radio..................

That has been my issue the whole time...the display has NEVER said "LOC" as long as I have had the car, it only says 0:00 with the volume triangles at 5 or 6 bars and will not change regardless of which buttons are pressed or for how long. It was that way when I bought it and the guy said the radio worked until a couple days before when he changed the battery. Is there a chance it is not locked, just dead?

You can get wiring harness from wal-mart for $10-$12. just pick one up and swap the units If you don't need it take it back.

well see i have three actually. one from wall mart, advanced auto, then crutchfield but none of em work? i dunno. but they just wont plug into my couplers from the factory harness.
Can you post a picture of your current connector. And if you have the part# from one of your adapters?
If all else fails cut the connector off and just hard wire it to the adapter that comes with the new headunit. get the wiring diagram for the new unit and the factory wiring and just match them up.

If it doesn't fit they either sent you the wrong part your you don't have a real Bose head unit.
How far off are the connectors?
Assuming it doesn't rain tonight, I'll take a pic of my wiring harness and you can compare it to yours unless someone else has handy the stock harness and Bose harness for reference???
yes that would be great. but they are not that far off. maybe i just need to fitle with it some more. but if you could post some pics i would appritiate it.
Sorry it was sprinkling a bit when I got home so I didn't take any pics.
Do you have 2 or 3 plugs from the old unit? Do they look like all of them plug into the one adapter you have? It might just be a bad molded recepticle on the adapter. I've seen harnesses with some piss poor quality and had to do some shaving of plastic to get everyting to fit.
you will need a bose adapter you will have to go to a stereo shop or best buy to get it.they will need to know the year and make of the car.if they dont have it you may just want to go ahead and replace the speakers because the radio will not play the factory bose as the ohm load is to low and will fry the radio
