I have a Pioneer AVH-P5000DVD for my KARR and I was wondering if anyone has bypassed the parking brake safety feature. I'm NOT planning on watching DVD's while I drive, but I want to be able to play DVD's while the car is at shows. I don't want to have to lift up my parking brake though. I read somewhere about connecting the wires to a ground source, but I'm not sure that would work. Does anyone have suggestions on this?

There is a way to connect the e brake cable and still watch the movie. When I did this on my cougar i ran the e brake cable (pink) to the e-brake signal line. then there is a code you have to enter to override the e-break. its in a backup menu. i can look around and get the code for you and directions on how to do it.

thanks, I have a Pioneer AVH-P5000DVD and please let me what you find out
here is a switch route you can take...go buy a toggle switch from autozone checkers or your local radio shack. it just has to be a 2 prong toggle or push button. all you do is connect one of the pins to the green wire that you are supposed to connect the emergency brake and the other pin to a ground. As soon as the "Don't drive while in motion....." screen comes up....just click the button once.
I am still looking for a code to where you connect it to the actual e-brake and then just bypass it but for now this is one way.. keep me posted if it works for you. I will keep looking. Just be careful!!

thanks I can use some knight rider buttons, but if you find the bypass code please let me know.
If you want to bypass the e-brake so you can watch a dvd when you want, all you have to do is ground the e-brake wire on your radio. Attatch the e-brake wire on the radio straight to ground and tape it up. No switches needed. This will allow you to watch a dvd whenever you want. This is what I did to the panasonic tv I have in my other car.

can you post photos of this radio that you installed?
I did this two years ago in my 05 impala and all you have to do is ground the wire. I had to run a toggle switch because if the radio was ever reset you had to un ground it then reground. Just run the wire to a toggle switch and if it doesnt let you watch a video then flip the switch off and back on.
I recently did this with my stereo, I just grounded the wire that was supposed to hook up to the e-brake. I had issues after I installed the head unit and an amp of my battery going dead after a few days. I rechecked everything I knew of and the grounding the ebrake wire was the only thing I could think of that wasn't wired to manufacturer's specs. Do you think that could cause the battery drain?

This is all you have to do to watch DVD's whenever. I did mine that way also. I have a Valor touchscreen.

Here are a couple pics of the tv/dvd player in my other car that I did a e-brake wire straight to ground with no switches. Never had a problem with it since I did the install about a year ago.

im pretty sure u jus connect the wire to ground and itll work. my flip has actually a code u put in with the remote in the options screen and it brings up a secret screen. type in ur model and search for a bypass code on google
Go with a PAC TR7 to over ride the parking cable. Many headunit you can over ride with a code or grounding the parking brake cable. Anyone that tries using the switches has got to be a hack. That would look so stupid to flip switches to make your headunit video work.
I know I'll get flamed for saying this, but the switches technique is for the noobs. Headunits have that parking brake safety device for legal reasons but can always, I mean ALWAYS, be bypassed.
Many people buy after market equiptment for marine usage. Where is the parking brake on a boat?
