Pioneer AVH-P4000DVD Install in '83 TA
The factory stereo in my '83 Trans Am started acting up again and I decided that it was time to treat myself to something new instead of repairing the factory one again. I'm not a big fan of aftermarket stereo appearance and wanted something that looked clean and stock.
Here are a few pictures of the installation process.
I decided to machine a new face plate.
Test fitting outside of the car.

In the car.
While the radio plate was being powdercoated I changed all of the instrument lights to blue LED's so they will illuminate the same color as the radio.
Radio plate back from the powdercoaters and installed.
Night. The shift indicator didn't light up from the factory in '83.

That had been an ongoing joke during the installation process.

There was no problem with the length. I did have to cut out the plastic divider in between the HVAC and factory stereo.

Your '89 radio pod has a couple of A/C ducts that my '83 doesn't have. I know that I had to notch them to install a 4th gen radio in my old '88 GTA. A double din radio is narrower that the factory radio so it may clear.

Very nice install. I saw the aluminum at the beginning and was like "oh no not another shiny interior", but it turned out amazing.

I agree, that looks very good. The only thing I would miss would be the Firebird "checker" pattern on the later 'Birds.

Hey Again,
I had another question about changing the lights on in the dash for my 84 Firebird. thank you for giving me the site for the bulbs but i am not sure which screws are fake and which screws are real and i dont want to strip the fake ones looking for the real ones so any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

All of the torx screws around the gauges are fake. The gauge bezel is one big piece.
