From what ive read you could get a factory cd player as early as 1989.Most people will tell you 1990 but they do have a section for the cd player in my 1989 camaro gm shop manual
Sounds like you're possibly looking to add a cd player to your car, is that correct? If you've got a bird, the newer cd players look pretty decent in the dash as-is, Camaro maybe not as much. Since my 87 deck is cassette, I'm planning on switching in the stock piece I had in my 97 GTP. Picked up a wiring harness from the junk yard yesterday and look forward to doing the swap shortly.
They first appeared in the '90 brochures, but might have been available as early as '89, however I can't confirm this. Note; they won't play some of the newer CD's or the MP3 format.
my 1989 has the cd player rpo and i have the actual cd player. of course the cd portion doesn't work. after my ls1 swap i am going to look at getting it refurbished.
