My car didn't have a radio when I bought it so I bought another radio from a third gen, now I can't get it to fit. It seems like the mounting bracket on the bottom makes it impossible. Most other radios have brackets on the side and thats how it looks like it's supposed to be set up in the car.
I've got pics below. The model on the radio says: 16123363 made by Delco and the date is May 21 1991.

Thats not a third gen radio.Looks like one from a buick reatta or riviera.It will fit but you must remove those brackets on the bottom.They should be held on by nuts then you must attach the correct brackets to the sides of the radio
That would explain a lot if it wasn't a third gen. I bought it on ebay and they said it was out of a Trans Am. Would I need a Reatta wiring harness to hook this up?
Quit wasting money on factory radios and buy a good aftermarket one. You can get a good one for $125 from Crutchfield and it will come with a free install kit and wiring harness.

whos to say the thing works if the idiot doent know the difference between a trans am and a reatta.
I have a very nice setup from my last car from head unit to speakers, amps, etc... but I don't want to install these right now because I hardly drive the car because it's still a project. I'm not going to install my good stuff in a car I drove about 5 miles last year.
I just wanted an original look at least. I want to install this "reatta" radio and if I install my system I'm going to have everything consealed. I don't like the look of the kits to install aftermarket radios.
Since you have an 85 most likely you will need an adapter for the wire connectors.Your car should have 3 big plugs(black,blue and white)while that radio I believe taks the newer 21 pin type connector.You should also need an antenna adapter as the older cars have a bigger plug while the newer ones have a smaller plug.Shouldnt be a problem at all.I installed a gm delco factory cd player from a mid 90`s buick in my 86 iroc and had to use both adapters
but at the same time what if he wants it to be all original?
