How much is too much in a third gen?

Right now im running 800w on two 10's. Too me just 800w hits pretty hard in my car, but i want some opinions..

I have an opportunity to get a 1200w amp and cables with a 12" JL sub w/ box. i was just wondering if it would sound good sitting right behind the back seat? or should i just stick with the 10's?

Re: How much is too much in a third gen?

I have 2-12" Power Acoustik Fubars. They are 1800watts a piece and I have a pyle choppper series 3000watt amp. I like mine but it doesn't have much exterior noise, well thats what I think. Ive noticed that the back half of the car vibrates and sounds horrible from the outside, but you just have to make sure that the more sub you want the more sound deadner you need to keep the vibration down. Everyone that gets in my car thinks it is insanely loud and Ive got yelled at at sonic a couple times for it being to loud, once I was actually shaking the bread off of the bread racks. But my point is, it is all personal opinion on how much is too much. Personally I WANT MORE, Im getting a flip out headunit that I hope will push out more and I was actually thinking on adding 2 - 10"s.
Well good luck with ur system. Post some pics when you you get it all set up

Also check out some of the boxes on ebay, if you still want to use your rear seat. My box is in the rear well in the back. It actually cleans up the whole look

Re: How much is too much in a third gen?

Build yourself a well enclosure and run 2 12's...pick whatever you want. I wont get into an arguing match on what is the best cause its pointless. I run 2 Crossfire db3's with two profile amps. Each is shooting 500rms at 2omhs to its dedicated sub. The amps say 1000watts on them .....ppl that see it are like 2000watts!....anyone into car audio knows thats all just a marketing scam. You really need to concentrate on true rms watts and the ohms. I also am running a power cell in my lock box. That honestly helped alot. Screw those capacitor crap just get a powercell(its just the car audio worlds deep cycle battery). My system is loud!. If my car is in the garage the sideing shakes. The neighbors all hate me...and all my buddies say they can hear me from FAR away. I wont lie its **** loud. I want to upgrade to Crossfire BMF 12's and run 1000 watts rms a piece to each. There is no limit on what you can do to your system. Here is some pics of my system....

Re: How much is too much in a third gen?

thanks for the input guys. i plan on having 2 12's but right now like i said im getting one in a box. i have no idea of the dimensions tho..

im pretty sure its pointless to have on 1200w but hes giving me a .5 capacitor i believe....

either way i want it loud enough to piss off people in the next lane, not much more lol

Bad idea there partner....show some respect for people in traffic next to you.

I have two 10's and can generate enough sound to become a nuisance (doesn't take much), but I show enough respect to turn the radio or gain down when I'm idling at a stop light.

Then again I'm 36 years old

I want to see that...even more i want to hear it. Phasing all those subs to hit at the right time so you dont cancel out is going to be a PITA. Let me know how that works out. I had to phase my 2 12's a lil in my car. Im now at 136.5...i want to get up to 140db then ill quit(maybe). Do you go to huge comps or just local comps. Ive been doing small comps around my town for 2 years now. More of a lets all hang out and show what we have not really a comp. I mean there is trophies and all but its more fun than serious stuff. We all get drunk together every other weekend if u know what i mean.

Re: How much is too much in a third gen?

Well i got all of the equipment installed...

The sub is a 12" JL audio W3V2 powered by a 1200W sony 2ch amp. The sub is in a box that fit perfectly where the rear passenger seat was and i am very happy with it. Even tho the box is kinda old and small.

I turned it on just under half volume and it knocked my rear-view mirror loose.. (Crazy glue stood no chance XD)

Its no 6 12's but i am very happy with it

Re: How much is too much in a third gen?

This is what i had in my 89 camaro, love the box cause it puts the subs right behind the tail lights and the only thing that actually radled alot was the license plate which a little bit of dynamite and it was fixed! Sounded great in and out the car, people couldnt believe how loud my car sounded with just 2 12s, they thought i had 15s in my trunk!

I had two Kicker CVR 12's at 800watts each. That hit pretty good. Too many rattles and too much weight so I got rid of them. I have a video of them but the camera couldn't really catch the sound so in the video they sounded bad. They sounded great though. Let me find it really quick.

I have 2 12's with a 1000 watt amp...no rattles and for me it is perfect. I am more into clarity than loud. Everyone's taste and ear are different. What might be perfect for me might not be for you and visa versa.

I haven't been all that impressed with any rear seat systems of thirdgens - you lose the extra gain from using the rear trunk area and sounds "off" to me.

You can get a better pair of 10's and put them in a spec'd ported box and it would be louder and still sound good....
