Alpine Type-R SPR-69C 2way

Infinity Kappa 693.9i 3 way

Polk Audio MM691 3way

Re: need advice on new 6x9's

6 x 9 speakers are going to distort, period.

If you want a good sound, consider going with a 6.5" comp set on a plate to fit in the 6x9 opening. Something like these.

I'm not a big fan of the infinity. Either of the other two are ok for the money. Maybe look at Image Dynamics. If I went with a 6x9 these would be my choice.

Re: need advice on new 6x9's

Stay away from the Alpines.I put a set of these in my daily driver rice and they don't sound any better than the smaller sized stock speakers.I've heard good things about the other 2 brands you mentioned, but I have not used them myself.I have a set of Kicker 6x9s in my RS which are not a$$ kickin', but pretty good....

Re: need advice on new 6x9's

ok are 6x9's good enough for the occasional crankin it up or are they just outright gonna distort... ive never really had a vehicle that used that size speaker.... i know in my 01 ss i had kicker 6.5 components all around that sounded bad ***... but i would like to try and avoid any modded plates back there... just a good speaker to fit the oem hole that is clear and crisp and can take the occasional abuse from cranking it up....... lol trying to overpower that damned exhaust is a mofo..

Re: need advice on new 6x9's

I just heard the Infinity Kappa 693.9i 3 way at Frys electornics here in AZ. They were blowing every other 6x9 out of the water. They have 2 ohm voicecoils so they are very efficent, loud and clear. I just but there 6.5's in my Jeep soundbar. I went to buy the polks and came out of the store with the Infinity's.

Go do a comparision test. You will see what I am talking about. I will be adding the Infinity Kappa 693.9i 3 way to my IROC very shortly.

Re: need advice on new 6x9's

Ive had all three. Polk MOMO's now. They don't distort as far as I can tell. I took some time to break them in. Help's. I have a amp powering them. I tuned the amp myself also. They are so loud that I cant take it!! No distortion. Ive played them loud when ive pulled in the driveway, & the wife said she hears them clear as a bell, even with the front door closed. She knows when I get home, every time.

I have nothing bad to say about any of your picks. The type R's I bought about 5 years ago. My dad still rocks with them. Kappas where stolen. Id like to think any speaker can sound good if you tune right (to a point).

By the way; to the 6x9 hatters. Sorry but ill keep mine. Stuck in 1980 lol. Still, bigger then a 6".
