any ideas on how to connect them to a player? like should i go to radio shack and buy some phone jack connectors and plug it into a cd player with a cd with teh sound effect on it? or how would you guys do it if you had to?
I've used some "weather / outdoor" $30 KLH speakers... they come with a bracket, screws right into the metal bumper, you can twist and aim the speaker where ever (towards the front fiberglass nose is best, loudest)...
Some scanners have the built in sound effect, with them, just a cable... but any other way, you will need some sort of amplifier... You can't just hook up the output from a portable CD player, not loud enough...
If you want to use your car's CD player (with an amp), I would run a switch... or it would be on all the time... You only really need 1 speaker up front, not 2... and don't play it too loud, since you will also be running the speaker inside and dropping inth the OHM load on the amp, it may not like it too much......
It would be kind'a neat to have two speakers stealthly mounted to created the greatest amount of stereo seperation. And then create the sound-effect in stereo and time it to the light travelling back & forth.
Then both the visual and the audible would be to it's greatest effect.
You would have to tweak the scanning effect yourself with a wav audio program.... panning back and forth to simulate stereo... and time it perfectly with your scanner....
Just get a scanner from Brennon / Lectric Enterprises.... Sound and remote built in... plug up a speaker and go!
