upgrading to a cd player

hey guys, this is my first post/thread. i have an 84 z28 that had the delco cassette/stereo system and i was wondering how to wire in the jvc cd player i took out of my old car. there are like 14 wires coming from the dash that went to the stock radio, and only 12 wires on the wiring harness of the cd player. which wires do i not connect? the wiring diagram in the haynes manual was extraordinarily confusing. what im looking for is like "connect (this color) wire to (that color) wire, and (that color) wire to (this color) wire..." like, step by step directions. i just got my camaro back from a 3 year hiatus, with a brand new crate motor, gas tank (cause the old gas was STALE), and b&m shift kit...so the only thing im missing is some tunes. i already have some aftermarket 6x9's installed and custimized into the side panels where the old stock rear speakers were, but i cant seem to get the cd player to wire in right. what the deal is!?!?!

please help.

Re: upgrading to a cd player

do they make a wiring harness to go from an older car into a newer cd player? thats kinda the issue, i think, that the car is an 84 and the cd player is alot newer. the harness that went to the stock stereo wont fit into the cd player

Wiring harnesses are a really good way to go since you can swap the system out later on if you sell the car or upgrade.

Otherwise, if you want to do it the old fashioned way, have a look here

Quite often the colour coding of the wires is different on older cars to that of new head units so that should help you match the new wires up to the equivalent ones on your existing stereo. I'm not sure if that connector is the same as the Camaro one but I'm guessing it would be.
