So I took my sub box out today because my subs have been cutting in and out but I think the Rem wire is loose somewhere or hitting another wire. But anyway, there was a TON of mold on the bottom right corner of the box and it has made the corner of the box bulge up and I dont know if it will be ok to put the box back in and use it or should I make a new box? All of the carpet is dry and as far as I know, there arent any leaks in the rear hatch, only my t-tops. Which I know the little bit of water that leaks there doesnt get all the way to the back of the car under the box.

Might be wise to find out what moisture exists in that area, and would be wiser to build another box. Thats eminent failure waiting to happen.

Water got in somehow find out where its coming from.Check the gasket around the hatch or a rust hole in the floor.

Deffinately replace those peices of mdf... MDF is like a sponge... any moisture there and it will suck it right up... after all... it is pretty much sawdust...

I have taken out the carpet around that whole area and there isnt any rust spots or holes. I know the seals dont leak in the rear so I dont know where the moisture would be coming from, other than the one little drain hole thats in the spare tire area.

hm.. I'm stumped... was there someone in your car, or who has access to your car and could have spilled something and was scared to tell you? Only thing i can really think of...

MDF is very absorbent; I found my 3/4" box was closer to 1 1/2" when I had a leak in my hatch area. It may not be very noticeable, but you can't have water back there without some kind of leak. Try putting a little bit of baby powder or flour on the side plastics and give the car a good washing. You should be able to find trickle tracks, no matter how small. I found that there's a little square section towards the back of the hatch near the sides that can have issues with sealing.

As for the box, you may be able to let it dry a bit more and hit it with a couple of layer of fiberglass to add some structure. However, if its wet, it will cause mold, possibly even inside the box.
