Radio volume oddity, im an idiot [my amps go up to 11]

Radio volume oddity, im an idiot

I got a Pioneer DEH P2900MP

Have had it for about a yr now, got it cheap but always been a fan of the DEH searies.

I thought it was because I was playing MP3s that kept me from being able to go full volume. 50-55-58 [depends on music style] is the loudest it will go without starting to sound liek crap.

Lots of tuning, at one point I gave up and just tuned everything for best sound a 50/ cranked amps up so I get full power at half volume. Ended up buying some CDs again as I wanted to be able to jam it louder. And my originals were scratched up to bad.

Thinking its the quality of the MP3s holding me back.

Get my new scratch free CDs in the mail and dam it all I can't go any lounder/cleaner with the same song as a a low quality 128k MP3.

Im stumped till I try some ubar clean volcals stuff id never listen to but for a test....

OK so now I know what the problem is.

The volume only goes up to 62, not the 100 I assumed, no mention in the book about that either. DOH

This whole things reminds me of the spinaltap movie, how he had his amps built to go up to 11, instead of 10 like everyones elses. So his are louder.

Solution: Ripe music into wav files, run through Audacity with the amplify filter at max setting without clipping.

30% louder music files.

Re: Radio volume oddity, im an idiot [my amps go up to 11]

And even more what’s messed up is because of all this; I unhooked 4 speakers as I thought they were going south. They are stock speakers but still did well as I only had them set up for the highs. [DEH series has awesome audio controls.] And ran all my amp’ed power into a sub. To help cure “it” I dumped the stockers as maybe it was them crapping out at half volume and grabbed a 6x9 box with good speakers & now the sub only has half the amp.
Now I gotta rewire it all as it was good that way.

Yep and no video, my VCR to DVD burner/player isn't working so I can't get the video. Thing is stuck on a wrong disc error, resetting and unpluging don't help.

Yes I still got an use a color VHS camcorder, great pic n sound, cheap cheap cheap all around, cept when ya can't transfer video off the tape.

Re: Radio volume oddity, im an idiot [my amps go up to 11]

Well now that I know why it starts to lose clarity around 60 and Its not going to 100.....

Put my mids I stole from a 90s escort back in. Suckers rock on hipass.

Clipped and unscrewed the tweets off of 6x9s as I only run them on the sub outs line......

Its odd but also kinda cool having a pair of tweets right up front like that, kinda facing me.

You can really hear them highs and clean to where you can almost see the drummer wailing on them brass disc its so clean.
