Do I really need an amp?

So heres my setup. I have eclipse 4x6 2way speakers up front and 2way 6x9 pioneers in the back, I also got a 96 sunfire head unit with the 7band equalizer. Now before I get bashed on here about my setup it was dirt cheap $100 for speakers, $15 for a cd radio and I just bought a $5 amp. The amp is a 300watt jensen and I was just wondering if I would be able to hear a difference if I hooked it up. Thanks

Re: Do I really need an amp?

Depending on the wattage of ur speakers..but yes...as a general rule you should experience better audio with an external amp.
Say for example you have a 50 watt speaker running off 15-18 watts of each headunit channel (thats in average the wattage they put out regardless of whats advertised)
The speaker wont be running at its full potential.

If u in the other hand have lets say a 200w amp for example (50x4) the speaker will be much more efficient , the sound will be more accurate since the speaker would be running at the watts it was designed to run at.

BTW it wont harm the speaker if the amp wattage is higher than the one of the speaker,it will help it in case of a sudden need of power...

hope that helped
