Power Antenna wiring to radio? Faceplate Question

Ok, so recently i wired up my radio. Its an alpine head unit, a CDA 93XX i believe its about 4 or 5 years old. I have used all the wires, with the exception of the remote wire. I need to wire up my power antenna on my new bird but im not quite sure how to. I just have a loose wire for the antenna power and no wire to connect it to from the radio. I didnt have a radio in the car before and i have never seen the wiring for a stock radio, my camaro never had a power antenna so i have no clue how to wire this thing up. My wiring diagram i have also does not mention the power antenna wiring either.

Another question is pertaining to the faceplate. The piece that goes around the faceplate, its black plastic im guessing its really a spacer or something. Anyways mine doesnt fit in a T/A's radio pod. Its too long and i need something smaller. I originally had the radio installed in a 99 Grand Am, then my 91 RS which used the same size plate, now i just have a loose radio because the mounting tabs dont line up. Any ideas on where to buy one of these? or what the size is for it?

Re: Power Antenna wiring to radio? Faceplate Question

If you are not running amps you can just use the remote wire for the antenna, (if you are running them u can just tap on the wire)the only difference is that for as long as u have the radio powered on it will be out all the time as opposed as only when you turn on the radio.

The amp remote wire and the antenna wire are pretty much the same thing, they just sent a signal to the amp/antenna to tell it to turn on.The only difference is as stated above..the antenna wire will only send a signal when the radio is on, and the remote will be on for as long as the radio is.

As far as the faceplate question if u post a pic it'd be easier to help =]

Ok my remote wire has a small plastic cover on it, like to keep the end from touching something, im assuming this is some kind of antenna for my Remote control that came with my unit. Its kinda hard to describe the connector at the pin, ill take a pic next time im in my car. But let me see if i understand you correctly. This wire can be connected to my power wire for the antenna, and the antenna will function, just be up the whole time the radio is on as opposed to just when im using the radio function(not playing a cd). If this is true how would i hook it up the "correct" way to where the antenna only comes up when the radio is on? Is there even a way to do that with aftermarket radios?

And the black thing im talking about, its common again i just dont know where to buy it, or what size is right. Untill i put the radio in my T/A i assumed it was a universal thing. Guess im wrong.

As it would occur, this is actually a pic of your radio 87 GTA lol. Im talking about the retainig ring that you bolt to the support of the radio pod. It goes around your radio and holds it to the pod. Not the faceplate of the radio pod itself.

Re: Power Antenna wiring to radio? Faceplate Question

Yes.If its a blue wire with no stripe its an antenna wire.If it has a white stripe is a remote amp wire.
If its blue only..your antenna will be out only when u are listening to AM/FM
If it is blue with a stripe it'll be out whenever ur radio is on.
If your radio has no remote..u'd have to use a switch if you want to run amps...or wire the remote to the acc wire i think...maybe someone more experienced can confirm that last one.

Is the ring thing you are talking about an L shaped piece that holds the radio pod down?

ok i get the radio wiring part now. i went out to check and confirm if there was a stripe and there is actually two wires. The one i was describing with a plastic ring around it and another blue wire that i had taped over because it wasnt used in my camaro. Turns out its the power antenna wire from what your telling me so ill wire that up tomorrow.

The piece i am talking about is this, ill edit the pic in paint to show you. Its the part that has This Piece written on it and i drew a red line through it all the way around.

thanks for your help btw
chris

Oh you mean the mounting kit..
I got mine from metra.but theres several other companies that make them
you go to http://www.metraonline.com/
you enter ur car and model, once you have your car selected, theres gonna be a drop down menu...you select "kits"
from there u can just copy the part number and look for it on ebay.
thats what I did
