In-Dash 4x6's

http://cgi.ebay.com/Boston-Acoustics...item2302c1b361

Was wondering what everybody thought on this set. They look puny from the pictures, but take a peek at the specs and they seem to pack a pretty good punch. 80 watts RMS per speaker...

Round woofers and tweeters so no sound distortion.

Seems like a much better route than hacking up the dash.

I don't know about Camaro, but for a Firebird I know that the 4x6 needs to be centered. Your speaker is Off-center, and it maybe too tall and the magnet seems to be too big(NOT 100% sure).

If You use them, you WILL need to cut alot of plastic out to fit them!

Is it worth it???

at 80 watts a piece you would be better off to go to bestbuy or something that has better ones that you will know for sure fit and if they dont you would be able to take them back.

You are better off getting yourself some tweeters or tryin to squeeze components in there.from what Ive heard those plates dont perform too well.

Hey Mikey, didn't you start a thread asking the samething(what would be good for speakers)..... I can't remember! Did you add/change your system/speakers?

Anyway...has anyone taken a look at those Alpine 406??? Consider this: I've got T-Tops, when there on the car, all 6 of my speakers sound great and are balenced. But when I got the T-Tops off, more of the sound I hear is coming from the front.

So wouldn't tweeters be too quite for a convert. or a T-Top car???(I wouldn't know)!

Alpine406-4x6(I use them as loud tweeters)
Alpine609-6x9(I use them as my mids)
2x PhenixGold 12"(just for the bass)

The 4x6s are a compromise, but that doesn't mean they have to sound terrible. I had Polk 4x6s and now have Memphis and they sound pretty good for what they are...

I got 2 JBL 125w 4x6's for my Camaro. The just BARELY fit, the magnet is a little big, but you can get it to work without having to cut into anything. Just a little advice for something you can look into.

Re: In-Dash 4x6's

Hello I am new to his site and I mostly joined initially to get some advice on the odd 4x6 dash speakers. I plan to get some new ones. Ive read the forums and I was wondering if some 5-1/4 pioneers would fit.
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...mpaign=froogle
I had heard that you can fit 5-1/4 speakers there, is it rue and what are my options?

Re: In-Dash 4x6's

Welcome Swigbeast! I've heard of others fitting larger sizes like that in, but they and now you will need to cut out and remove some of the plastic cooling/heating duct to fit the larger dia. magnet in there!

How much needs to be cut out, I don't know. I kept mine simple...I replaced my factory speakers with factory sized Alpine's.....

Re: In-Dash 4x6's

Also Pioneers and Polks will fit.I think those infinity plates too.
When choosing 4x6's or any speaker for that matter (If you really want 4x6's, I'd personally wouldnt use em)
take into account both depth and diameter, theyre equally important.

You'd be better of with a round speaker (4,4.5,5).They are more efficient.

I got these for my Iroc - http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PU...neer/TS-A4672R

Sounds 100% better than stock but not the best. I think I paid $46 shipped when NewEgg was selling them. Fit perfectly, plenty of room.

Alpine SPS-406 4"x6" 2-way Car Speakers

this fit without modding the car. you will have to mod the bracket that comes with the speakers. trim down the places where the tabs in the front of the dash hold the speaker bracket. they will fit really tight but you wont have to cut the dash apart. i used these to replace my stock ones.

Re: In-Dash 4x6's

Alright thank for the replies everyone.
Ive just been weighing the pros and cons, im thinking about getting some round speakers, maybe a plate.

but i definitely dont want to cut.

Im not looking for a super powerful system, but just something that can handle a little bass, because i bought some real cheap 4x6 a year ago and they cant handle any type of bass whatsoever, and my 6x9's are so-so.

so i think maybe a plate with a nice tweeter for some nice clean highs will do the trick. maybe the infinity plate or the alpines, hows the bass on those?

also do the pioneer TS-A4672R really fit because crutchfield doesnt seem to think so.

im not an audiophile by any stretch and they work fine for normal radio use playing CD's and just listening to radio broadcasts. they are about the same as most new stock speaker systems. i replaced the stock ones with them because they were the closest thing to stock i could find that werent made of paper 20 years ago.

my firebird has a 12 disc CD changer which was the U1S dealer stock installed option if im not mistaken.

so those are the only things on my ride that are not original equipment. well along with the 2 6x9 in the back those were blown or damaged and had to be replaced as well.

I have a pioneer system and wanted to get these, they fit your Iroc, right. does anyone know if the dash specifications are the same for an Iroc (whichever year his is) as an 86 Trans Am? And if so will they fit?

Also, Ive been comparing the pioneer http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PU...ries/TS-A4672R

and the Alpine 406's
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-hQwXU3R...e-SPS-406.html

Not sure about all the specifications, but basically i want the ones that can go louder (RMS?), for lack of speaker knowledge. Any help from knowledgeable people is greatly appreciated.

Re: In-Dash 4x6's

Swigbeast - sorry I just got the email for this thread subscription.

Yes, they fit fine in my 87 Iroc. I usually check Crutchfield prior to purchasing, but I didn't for my Iroc audio. There were no fitment issues whatsoever. I read somewhere that T/As and Camaros may possibly be different as far as dash speaker fitment goes.

RMS is constant wattage. If you want something loud and clear you will want to amplify it. If you do not want to mess with that, then get a good head unit that can handle higher RMS.

Feel free to PM me as I will respond to that much faster if you have anymore specific questions.

Re: In-Dash 4x6's

Ok well i think i might just try those out as long as the iroc and t/a have no differences. is there anyone else that can clear up this question.

Do the dash audio areas have any significant changes between the 87 iroc and the 86 trans am that could be troublesome?
Thanks in advance, and thanks again Harner
