Good low volume bass WITHOUT big subs...is it possible?

My 6 year old Alpine headunit needs upgrading, I've been running the stock 25w per channel to the usual upgraded 4 x 6 dash and a pair of Alpine 6 x 9's in the sail panels but of course it lacks much bass, my 2000 Dodge truck came from the factory with a Infinity system with powered speakers and it sounds great at low levels and has lots of bass from pretty small speakers but it lacks power to get loud and I would like something close to that for my Camaro but a bit louder, I don't want something that rattles the car but I would like ideas to get good low volume bass without adding big subs, any idea's? The budget is 1K or less.

I take it you dont want subs bcuz of the space issue....CDT makes 6x9's subwoofers...
(yes actual subwoofers) they are designed to work in an infinite baffle only

theyre the 1st ones on the left
http://www.cdtaudio.com/6x9_series_08.htm

Not many people now that brand..but theyre used in SQ applications.

theyre about 100 W each...so you dont need a big amp...If you go this route tho I think it'd be beneficial to dynamat the sail panels to prevent rattle.

Just an idea.

A sub that will play to 4000hz

You could put 8" or 10" subs in the rear sail area and run a 5.25" comp or coax in the dash then add an amp. All for under 1K.

Do a serach, as there are pics of 8's and 10' in the sail. OR PM "The Project", I know he has some pics.

Just a thought...
I'd go with shallow subs if u decide to go 8....10 seems a little big for the sails
I'd also get a free air sub...otherwise the bass response would be weak.

Im guessing the 4000 is a 400....idk lol but i didnt notice that.

I spent about $500 plus the price of wood, nails and glue for my system and have been VERY happy--I lost very little space in the trunk, have outstanding base and receive compliments from everyone who gets in my car.

Sony CDX-GT730UI: $159.99
Infinity 4 x 6 $50.00
Infinity 6 x 9 $100.00
Kenwood KAC-8104D Class D Mono Power Amplifier -Kenwood KAC8104D Class D Mono Power Amplifier $113.00
10 inch JBL Sub $70.00

Re: Good low volume bass WITHOUT big subs...is it possible?

Check my thread here:

http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/ca...mp-us-old.html (A Little Thump For Us OLD Folks)

I have about $200 max (including $6 wood, $14 carpet from Walmart, and $12 grill covers with fabric) tied up in this - it's used stuff from Craigslist - one little lonely 10 inch kenwood, with some super elcheapo amp from Pep Boys or something. I've seen sets at WalMart or Pep Boys for $150 that are much more than I have, and my little setup thumps really nice but doesn't rattle - and although it's not a "free air" designed sub, it hits plenty hard - if adjusted a tad more I do rattle.

Re: Good low volume bass WITHOUT big subs...is it possible?

How about mounting the sub in the spare tire area?
