rear left speaker cuts in and out. possible bad head unit...

hey everyone

well i have had this problem for a week now..... but i still have the stock head unit from my 88 trans am gta.... when im listening to a station on the radio the rear left speaker looses power and doesnt work but all the other speakers are fine.. but as soon as a i turn off the radio and turn it back on again that rear left speaker works for a few minutes and soon doesnt work again..sometimes it will have no problems for a while but it still acts up.. so i bought brand new factory replacement rear speakers... it still doing the same thing..... its seems like whenever it turn off and then turn on the radio again its fine until it the speaker stops working again after a while.... do you guys think its the head unit itself..i have had this radio repaired a year ago because i couldnt get any radio stations from it... they guy who repaired it said that the whole board inside the radio was bad..every since then its worked fine until recently with the speaker loosing power.. im not going to spend more money on this stock radio. its over 20 years old and sometimes it will all of a sudden change to a different station out of no where or i will have it at a certain volume then it will mute itself.... oh and half the radio lights burnt out about a month ago and whenever i sue the cassette adapater it spits it back out...... is this radio trash.... i have my eye on a nice kenwood unit by the way...

Re: rear left speaker cuts in and out. possible bad head unit...

the radio is complete trash no offense i threw mine in the trash.. Usually that type or problem is in the unit since you replaced the speakers my guess is it has a bad out put one of of the rear channels which is the left rear the only other reason this can occur is a grounded speaker wire which means the speaker terminal is grounded or part of the wire is. My opinion put a new deck in because you need it plus if that still happends after you will need to check the factory speaker wiring within the car to see if it has rotted or has fallen apart which can happen.. but atleast you will have a new cd player and wont be stuck in the 80's anymore lol hope this helps!

Re: rear left speaker cuts in and out. possible bad head unit...

i know its not the speaker because i just replaced it and its doing the exact same thing as the factory speaker and just to make sure, i swapped the other side speaker that was working fine to the left rear and it still does it so its not the speaker....... whenever it cuts off i just turn off the radio and turn it right back on and it will work..... i am getting the kenwood unit but i wanted to make sure it was the radio itself... we checked the terminals and they are fine... the factory wiring is fine also...... ive replace just about everything.... the only thing it could be is the radio....

check your wires and make sure none of the wires are bare and touching eachother. I had this problem in my dash. I hit a bump and they cut out then come back on sometimes but other times not.
