I used large Cool It mat materials to cover the majority of areas that I wanted to cover then also used the peel and seal material from Lowes to cover some of the smaller void areas. It works okay on floor pans and such but not too well on vertical surfaces.
I have used "Peel and Seal" in my vehicles before. Sound deadners come in two main flavors- asphalt-based and butyl-based. The cheaper stuff (like the stuff you find at Lowes & Home Depot) is asphault based. Works ok, may smell a bit funny. Comperable sized butyl material will always beat asphalt, but there is usually a pretty decent difference in price.
With all that said, one or two layers of the cheaper stuff on the floor is better than nothing and I did see a noticiable difference in noise. I'd caution putting it anywhere verticle (as the heat can make it slide down), but the floor should be fine.
Second Skin's a good choice if you're looking to step it up
thanks for the post guys. i found som dynamat bulk 36sq ft for $130 free shipping
ill try it out i hope i wont need more but we'll see. i dont wana do this twice and spend more money doing it over plus i dont wana deal with the smell of the lowes stuff.
I hang out quite a bit in car audio forums and everyone advices it against itt....they say the glue comes off easily....specially with heat...and when it does it stinks like a**
I have it in my car, and for about a year my car sat outside at my parents house.
Even with the hot summer we had last year (95+ degree days), the seal and peal I used has held up great, hasn't fallen and doesn't smell at all either.
You just need to make sure when applying that the surface your putting it on is clean.
