newbie needs help with rear speaker install

I have an '84 z28. I had a blown speaker. I have never replaced speakers or the like. I was able to get the rear speakers out - just unclipped them - pretty easy. Now though, the replacement speakers obviously do not have the same harness so no clip. How do I connect the wiring on the new speakers? The wiring that is left in the car has one brown wire and one yellow wire that feed into the harness. I feel like an idiot asking for help on what to most is probably an easy thing to do - but I am stuck Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Re: newbie needs help with rear speaker install

Well you can either go two different directions with this. If you new speakers have wires coming off them you can attach the stock factory harness from the broken speakers onto the new speakers.

Or you can just wire the new speakers into the wiring in the car. Just cut off the harness and wire it straight together. Make sure you dont just twist the connections and leave them in the car. Ive seen people do that before and ummm ya...you get the point.

I did my speakers so long ago that I forgot which wire is which. Someone will chime in with which wire needs to go to which wire. I think the brown is negative and the yellow is positive. Im not totally sure on that tho.

Re: newbie needs help with rear speaker install

Thanks for the help! I soldered the wires connected to the new speaker to the old wiring harness I took off the older speaker and then just clipped it back in. The brown wire is positive and yellow is negative. Thanks again for your help.
