Looking for advice on planning new system
My sound system just flat out sucks. I need an idea of what brand/type of speakers to get. What type of wiring to run, what kind of amp, subwoofer etc. Just looking for advice for a NICE system.
Right now I have a pioneer stereo, it just has a RF jack in the rear for speakers. Nothing else. The front speakers are some Walmart brand. The rear I am not sure about it.
I am not very up to date with this type of stuff. Honestly, my stock stereo in my ford escape sounds 100 times better right now sad to say =(

some of the higher end pioneer HU's are decent. I like clarion, sounds good, has all sorts of adjustments and features.
the 302 has alot of good features for a lower end unit. the 702 adds a bunch of audio quality stuff. really depends what type of music you listen too and how much you want to spend on it? if you just want it to be better than your stock escape that wouldnt take any more than a decent HU and some lower end aftermarket speakers. maybe pioneer, mbquart, base alpine or RF

When needing advice and opinions it's best to gives the most information you can.
What type of music you mostly listen too? How much do you want to spend are the most important for audio.

Re: Looking for advice on planning new system
Padak is correct, more information only helps with advice given.
JW is also correct. If there is one single component to spend the most money on and not skimp is the head unit. I had a cheap WalMart bought Pioneer and 6 months ago switched to a nice Alpine unit and the difference was night and day.
Mudd, I disagree with you slightly. JL has a great name and does make quality stuff, but I find they are overpriced for what you get. I have 2 JL 12" subs and a JL 250/1 amp right now. I paid $450 for the setup brand new from Sonic Electronix. For that price I could have had 2 Sundown 12" subs and a Rockford Fosgate amp and instead of 250watts, I could have 1,200 watts. And this isnt cheap Hifonics stuff either. This setup would be putting out huge amounts of nice clean and clear bass compared to what I currently have. Im not knocking JL as a brand, just saying that the price is a bit too steep for what you get.
So back to what to buy. I have MB Quart rear speakers, I'd suggest Polk over them. Im not impressed, and again they werent worth the money I spent. I have had Polks before and they were much better than these MB Quarts.
Here is my current setup in case you are wondering...
Alpine 147BT Headunit
1990s Panasonic 4x6 front speakers that came with the car
MB Quart 6.5" component speakers in the sail panels
JL audio amp and subs out back.
I dont have any additional amps running the mids range speakers and they still sound good. They get nice and loud and have surprised quite a few people. It's a bit overkill for the average person and will be waaaaay overkill once I upgrade the amp and subs at the end of summer (hopefully) If you dont want huge bass, a single 10" or even 8" will give you plenty of low end thump.

Re: Looking for advice on planning new system
I was only giving advice but if you want to know what I'm running then here you go focal krx3 front, focal kp100 rear, focal sold 4 amp for front, focal solid 2 for rear, focal solid 1 for sub(currently a RF P3 10 but I have the focal kx27 but haven't had time to build enclosure for it yet) and alpine 535hd. Sounds loud and clear even with the top down on the freeway in a 89 iroc convertible.

Re: Looking for advice on planning new system
polks are alot better and all i buy but they are also alot more expensive and really need an amp to sound good(lower frequencies arent very full without it). they way i look at it though, i have never had one wear out or go bad, so i just keep moving them to the next car. maybe someday i will have one go and i will know how long they last.
