Need Help Getting Best Sound quality

i have decided to upgrade my stereo in my 88 firebird. i do want to reuse my Kicker 12 Squares but i am going to need an all new custom box built for them to fit in my hatch. i am also going to buy matching Kicker dash and pillar speakers and going to swap my radio from my truck to my car. but since i need a new box i am going to ask what would sound best in a T-top car, ported or sealed box? i am also pushing with a 1000 watt Mono block amp. also what could i do to the hatch and other components to prevent Rattling during a Bass hit

Sound deadener for the metal, felt for the plastic.

Re: Need Help Getting Best Sound quality

From my experiences, ported boxes in these cars have a bigger change in sound with open air vs sealed cabin than a sealed box does. I currently have a ported box in my hardtop car and have had sealed boxes in both hardtop and t-top cars. With the sealed, it didnt seam to matter much if the tops were on, windows up, tops off, windows down, it all hit pretty much with the same amount of force and bass. With the ported box I have now. When the windows are up, the sound is muted slightly. When I roll the windows down, the bass is much deeper and louder. Im running 2 12" JL Audio 12WX4V2 subs off a 250w JL Audio 250/1 amp.

It's really all a matter of taste too. If you listen to more rock and metal, the sealed box will be much tighter and probably sound much better. A ported box has more of a boom and echo to it and is better suited to rap and techno type music.

It also depends on the box specs and how much room you want or can use for the box.

My 12" IDMAX only needs 1.5 cu.ft. sealed and has A LOT of throw.

Go to a few audio shows and try to hear some subs in action. The Sundown SA and SSA ICON might be a good choice. Then again, Pioneer Champion Pro's have been in world championship winning cars as well.
