I have a Pontiac UX1 radio with no front left channel...I added a Mp3 aux. input, could this be the problem?...all wiring connections were properly soldered and insulated with heat shrink tubing. For me hacking in an aux. jack is one thing, but electronic circuitry is beyond me...Thanks!

Can you provide more info? Like did this happen immediately after you wired in the aux port? Have you tried swapping outputs to make sure it's a radio problem and not a speaker or wiring problem? Are you running an external amp (I don't know the RPO codes enough to know if UX1 is internally amplified or not) or straight from the radio to the speakers? Some reasons for a channel to shut down are shorts detected in the channel, like if a strand of wire shorted across two circuits or a glob of solder fell onto the circuit board, or something.

Assuming you're not running an amp, swap a working channel with this channel to determine if the problem is inside the radio or not. If swapping wires still has the LF speaker inop, the problem is in the wiring. If swapping wires causes the swapped speaker to be inop, the problem is in the radio.

you have to swap wires at the radio connector for this test to work.

I imagine that anything you modified in an aux conversion would take out the whole side and not just the left front. Any links to where you found the instructions? It might help people see what and where you made the modifications. I've seen a couple of ways of doing it.

Sometimes the output transistors go out as well. I also agree with what Lurbie posted.

FWIW, Pontiac vs. Chevy doesn't really mater as much as the version/model of the radio you have. Differences between them are more in the face plates than the electronics inside.

Was the radio working properly before you added the aux jack? Did you have power applied to the radio during or after the modification before you reinstalled it in the car? If it just the front left channel and not the front and rear I can say with certainty that it is a bad output IC. They can be replaced. You need a good quality thru-hole vacuum desoldering gun to take out the old one.
