I started my power wire off the fuse block because I was too lazy to run wire to the battery. Works fine unless you plan on pushing serious power.

The best place to run the wire is under the driver's side part of the firewall...the easiest side to get to. Then run it behind the kickpanel, along the floor panel under the door, under the rear wheel panels, and into the back.

For me, the easiest way to run a length of large diameter wire from the engine compartment to the inside of the vehicle was on the passenger side kick panel.

I made a 3/4" hole just below the antenna wire. It was easy to get a drill in this area. I then ran the wire from the engine compartment (passenger side fender) into the vehicle, then back (under the side molding) and then back to the auxiliary battery mounted in the rear well area.

I installed a rubber grommet after running the wire through the metal to protect the wire.

The hardest part was "fishing" the wire through the hole. I first used a piece of solid wire I inserted from the inside, and bent/manulipated it so I could grab it from the inside of the fender/engine compartment (below the antenna mount). I then tapped my wire to the wire and pulled it through.

For mine, I ran a 4 awg wire down the passenger side. You should run it down the passenger side if you have a Camaro, because that's the side the battery is on. You dont really want to cross the engine. I ran it along the fender, then down inside the fender. Behind the kick panel was a little rectangle of sticky sound deadner stuff. I pulled that up and drilled a large hole through there, going to the inside of the fender area. I brought the wire in through there, and routed it from there. Probably not the best way to do it though, because since I used 4 awg it creates a small bulge where it passes under the bottom of the kick panel under the carpet. Not noticable though. And make sure to use a fuse off the battery and a rubber gromet. Oh and check the tech articles, I think one of them might have directions for the power wire. I found them pretty helpful when I was just starting.

Sweet, thanks fella's.
Yeah I have 700 watts of amps that are staring me down every time I go in the garage so its time to drill some metal.

Thanks again.

No, you don't have to drill any holes. I just ran some four guage wire under the pass. side fender, then through the door jam. Then under the door sill, and the interior molding, all the way to the back. Works great.

Running wire through the door jam is unprofessional and just plain dangerous. After it chaffes for a while you'll short out the wire to the chassis. Always run your wire through a safe entry point like the kick panel or fire wall, making sure to put a rubber grommet in the hole so that the wire never contacts anything that could comprimise it.

Ditto to what Jim said. I took out my passenger side kick panel, drilled a hole thru the firewall behind the kick panel, ran the wire, used a rubber grommet and also used silicone sealant all around the the hole, grommet and wire for extra protection.

1st - Not all Camaros have the battery on the passengers side. On my '91 it is on the driver's side.

2nd - It's about impossible to get a large guage wire through any of the factory grommets so you'll probably have to drill a hole in the firewall.

3rd - USE A GROMMET.

4th - Before you drill the hole, consider what is on the engine side of the firewall. Make an effort to stay as far away from the exhaust manifolds as possible. I made the mistake of drilling mine a little too close and I had to make a heat sheild to keep from melting the wire.

I drilled a hole thru the firewall... my Firebird has the battery on the driver's side.

Some cars actually have a firewall plug in that area... just punch it through, and you'll have a pre-cut GM hole. You need to punch it from the inside (of the car) out (toward the engine).

Use things in that area as a guide... such as the big firewall pass-thru connector, the steering column shaft, the brake booster, etc.
