Before I knew any better, I ran too much power through the power wire I had for my amp. When doing so, my deck made some funny noises, and now wont send any current to the speakers. I unplugged everything, checked all the fuses, etc. Used the probe, deck has power, but the outputs don't have power anymore. After unplugging and checking connections, it had sound for about a minute before just cutting off. Deck still lit up, etc. Just now send to the speakers. Kind of came in and out from that. Now it just wont send to the speakers. Uh did I fry the deck?

Are you having a problem with the high level outputs of the HU or the low level outputs?

Are you sure it's the HU and not your amp that is malfunctioning?

Its possible you fried the outputs by connecting them to the power cable?

I have a deck that was first running 2 4x6, 2 6x9, and then a 300 watt amp running a pair of 10" subs in the back. My friend gave me another 10" sub with a 250watt amp attached. I hooked the new sub, up to my other 10"s.

To be specific... I ran a 300Watt and 250watt amp off the same 10 gauge wire connected to the battery, same ground, and same remote power wire. When I turned the key on to see if it would work, no sound came out.

Then I did my diagnostics, running just he original system without the 250W/10".

And here is where I am.

OK ... if this was actually true then you should have either (a) blown the power wire fuse (you should have an inline fuse close to the battery to protect the wire or (b) melted the actual power wire or caught it on fire (which I've seen and is pretty scary).

Is sound coming from the 4x6s & 6x9s that are being powered by the HU?

Have you tested for +12V at the power wire with a multimeter or voltmeter or test light?
(This would establish if the amp is actually getting power.)

Have you tested for +12V at the remote turn on lead (with the HU turned on) with a multimeter? (This would establish if the amp is actually getting the signal to turn on.)

After reading you posts again ... How did you connect up the input to the second amp when you installed it? Did you use 2 RCA Y-spitters? Did the first amp have RCA outputs? Did you run another RCA from the HU?

... sure you could have blown the output on the HU but I don't really understand how you did and and because HUs are expensive (to me) I would no't assume you did unless there was no other explaination

In short: I took the deck in question out. Borrowed my girlfriend's deck. Everything works fine, put my deck in again.. no power is coming from the HU output.

When I hooked the 2nd amp up.. I ran a power line from the power terminal of the other amp, as I did the same with the ground and remote.

I would just take it to a electronics shop and get a free estimate.

to me, it sounds like you blew a component or 2...nothing too major...i could be wrong but i am studying to be an electronic tech. so hey..never know...the way you say it worked for a min or whatever makes me think of it being a capacitor that is getting one initial charge and not holding or continuously being charged and releasing

the guy who owned my car previously did that because the power wire never worked. I just fixed it today in fact. I love it now.
