the first one you found..my friend has it...well had it in his truck before he totaled it last week..it changes everything but the buttons to a different color...it even has one setting that if you dont touch the cd player for a few seconds it completly turns all the lights off, it looks like its off, but it still plays music...im looking for the second one you found now.....anybody have last years crutchfields mag with the red-glow cd player in it? thanks
jensen, is like saying why does my 4 cylinder not compare to my V8. They have a bad reptation for being like sony, cool looking but break easily, and the sound quality usually just aint that great.
i was looking around some more, and the AIWA CDC-X427 gives you the choice between red and blue for button illumination, but i dont think it changes the display.
The AIWA CDC-MP32 that I had glowed red. It was nice too. The new Sony CDX-M620 glows red also. Don't let everybody else talk you of a Sony. They're really nice decks!

Actually, there was one in the last issue of Crutchfield that I got last week. I would give you the stats and page #, but I left the mag at my mom's house yesterday. I will try to get it in the next couple of days.
i should have added this to my last post but i just thought of it...this weekend i drove my uncles new grand prix....i couldnt believe the bass this has and the system was completly stock! i mean amd bass! or maybe it just doesnt take a lot to impress me? lol
try the kenwood kdc-v7017 or the kdc-v7019. they're pretty much the same as the excelon series, but not the same quality. if you don't have the money for the excelon, these are probably just as good. you can get them from 6th ave electronics (might just be a jersey thing, not sure), yahoo shopping, or even ebay.
i dont know if its just me, but i buy my HU for its quality, not its color. but hey, whatever floats your boat. just stay away from the jensen and aiwa units and you'll be fine
Aiwa and Sony are just fine in Car Audio. You gotta remember not EVERYBODY needs a SUPER TOP OF THE LINE deck to compete with. For everyday use a Sony or Aiwa is great! I've had both and you hear any complains from me.

Agreed
My freidn has that Awia one that glows red and blue....solid deck. No bells or whistles, but its good.
My aiwa, and two of my friends aiwa mini stereo system in our homes all died after about a year and a half. The CD-Changer gets possessed and chooses what cds it wants. I just use it now in my spare room to crank out a semi surround sound from my TV. (Got a digital 5.1 in my main room so I don't care if the Aiwa catches fire or blows up)
Kenwood Excelon headunits allow you to change from red to green to no illumination. Mine died though but then again it was 3 years old and i used it every day.
Now i got a Eclipse and its blue display but i dont care. It plays my cds and doesn't have the stupid unneccessary (SP) features that will brake time and time again and make you send it back.
In my opinion, I dont care about what color the radio is. It can be purple, green, blue, red, black, white, white red, yellow, off white, ivory, blue-green and maybe even turquiose. If it has great sound for a good price and from a highly respectable brand, then thats what matters.

what i was saying is that aiwa is no good for cars. there home stuff aint bad at all. i've just heard many things negative about them. plus, there is a point where price starts affecting the quality of a product. i dont have money to buy a top of the line deck either , but i'm gonna save up for a pretty decent one, around $300-350.
Sony does dam good on there decks, and have been doing better every year on there speakers/subs/amps. I run a complete sony setup and it rattles mirrors on other vehicles.
Sony deck (stupid shifter/parking brake ):

CDX-CA650X
*52x4 high power amplifier
*EQ7 for creating favorite frequency curve
*Sound Position presets, "My Best Sound Position"
*Flip down front panel w/ large display
*RCA Preout x2 for extra amplifier
*Detachable front panel for security
Comes with remote, plays CD's, CD-R's, can hook up a CD changer or Minidisk changer.
I have to say, I really like the Rockford line of decks too. I don't know if they're red enough (I have one of last year's black ones not the new aluminum face ones). But if they are, then I don't think you can go wrong there. Quaity decks, reasonable price.
I don't really care what everyone says about Sony, neither me or my freinds have ever had any problems with the Sony Head Units. Plus, there newer stuff seems to be really well made, I may also be biased here cause my mom happens to work there, and I can get stuff for dirt cheap, but that doesn't mean that I wouldn't buy somthing different if I really wanted it. Overall, if your not gonna be competeing, or if your not after the most expensive G-D thing money can buy... then I really don't see the big deal in being picky over buy a Sony, Aiwa or Rockfor Fosgate unit. If you wanna listen to your music, and have the damned thing glow red, then Sony would probobly be for you, since just about ALL of there X-Plod line of Car Audio stuff is Red. But all this talk about Sony being trash is way over exagerated, only thing I wouldn't buy for car audio from Sony would be there stock X-Plod AMP's , I'd go with an ES since they aparently get calls about the normal amps VERY often.

Just because you don't have problems doesn't mean nobody else does. The last place I worked for sold Sony, and a TON of it came back for warranty work. When sony started their X-plod line, it became obvious that there was a shift in their entire car audio philosophy. They decided to push product through agressive marketing to kids that like shiny bells & whistles instead of producing a quality product like they did in the past.
have havent had a single prob with my pre-sony deack (had it for about 5 years) my xplode has had 3 problems in one year. Good luck with the new sony. Prob the best thing to do is by it at a store with extended warrenty so when things go wrong it is covered for a few years. Or take the money you were going to spend on the warrenty puls the deck, and get a diff deck.
I have a Sony Xplod deck (cassette) and it's no good. I do like some of the features on it, and I did buy it because of the red backlighting. To have a nice red backlighting on all my guages and then this gaudy bright blue deck would be to irritating. I like my car, and I'm willing to go the extra mile to do things 'right.'
However, the faceplate on the deck is junk. The connection doesn't work right. The music plays fine, but if I'm flipping through the radio stations, it'll keep changing the audio, but the display is reading the station 5 back. Sometimes the display goes to garbage and the buttons dont work. The faceplate can be attached and pushed closed and be on but blank. I have to try and push on one corner of the faceplate with part of my hand and hit buttons with my thumb. And apparantly the CD decks will skip if your tire tread is uneven, though my cassette deck works fine. Hope they're making them better because its the only deck I've seen that looks 'right' in my dash.

PS- A guy I used to work with was a car audio nut, really put the time into subwoofer box design and all that. While I was talking with him I mentioned my Sony deck, and he just started laughing. "Man, I feel sorry for you" was his comment.
I bought one by Road Gear model #RGCD412 that glows bright red. I would put a pic up put it is late right now and my face place is off it. I bring it in every night cause of the prick that stole my last one.
It not very expensive it was 75.00 at wal-mart. I had to purchase something cheap cause i don't have money.....I had a jvc. it was really nice. Sounded great.
I really miss it. mutter mutter....death...mutter...strap to hood....mutter.
If you are willing to spend a little money on a red glow i would go with a Kenwood Excelon. They have Red button illumination. And they look and sound great.
No to dis-respect any one here with one, but if you like your car i wouldn't get a JVC. I had one for about 4 months in my car, One day while driving down the road it just shut off, Next thing i know, SMOKE is comming out of the thing, I had to stop and put out the damn fire it caused. It happened to my friend also(I was in the car), Mark my words a JVC will never go back in my car.
Spend the extra money now, you'll wish you did in the long run.
