Here is a picture of a QJet that is not computer controlled. But my QJet has an electric choke, which this pic does not show, and it also has an electonic nodule at the front top, in front of the primaries, that has several wires going to it.
Does that mean I am actually running a cc-QJet on my non computer engine? I have a vacuum advance distributor.

If you go to www.edelbrock.com, click on automotive, then carburetors and Q-jet Spread Bore, you'll see a picture with three carbs in it. Two have electric choke, one does not.
The picture you showed is a divorced-choke model, 1901 (which I used to run on the 396) or 1902. The choke type, though, has nothing to do with CC or non-CC (although all CC q-jets are electric choke).
If you have a two-wire connector on the top front passenger-side corner of the carb, and a 3-wire (or is it 4?) on the front driver's side corner of the carb, then you have a CC carb. If not, then you don't.
Some models also included an idle solenoid or stepper motor. Again, CC or non-CC isn't the issue there.
The front passenger side has a blue connector with 2 wires, that's the M/C solenoid. The front driver's side has 3 wires, black connector with a green band around it... that's the TPS.
I'll post a picture soon.

Well, it is a bit of a relief to know it ain't cc. I thought for moment there that I might have to buy a whole new carb, which I don't want to do. This one runs like a top and when the secondaries kick in, well, it's "Zoom, zoom zoom!" as the commercial says
Still, when it almost stalls coming to a halt, it drives me crazy! It even does that when I put the car in neutral and come to a bit of a quick stop. And it isn't a radical stop, either.

Chris is a good lad
Yeah I can think of a few other things he installed on there too.
I recall in one of the exploded diagrams in Doug Roe's book that there was a similar connector in that location to control the activity of the double-capacity accelerator pump on some models.
There was only one reference that I could find, an exploded view of '85-'86 truck CC carbs - said something about "not all models will have all parts shown".
Must not be a lot of those out there. Do you feel special now?
Im not real knowledgabe on carbs, but I wonder if when you come to a stop it is taking vacume you need for the carb. Do you have everyting hooked up right and no vacume leaks. I am just pulling this out of my @ss so if it doesnt make sense, sorry.
Get rid of that truck carb (I've seen them on trucks here in my area) and put on a regular carb. The choke housing can be swapped to another carb, so long as the vehicle can use the choke setup.

Yeah, we hooked up a vacuum gauge and hammered on the brakes but it kept a good reserve. Good guess, though.

Well, I'm having this carb rebuilt as we speak. If that doesn't fix the stalling, I'll just have to try a different carb, alright
Originally posted by Apeiron I've got a couple of M4MC's in a box in Kamloops that might work.
Well, the guy doing my rebuild has a non-cc QJet he is going to swap me. So that ought to do it. He says something about an oxegen sensor that the wirey thingy on the top of the carb is attached to. If it kicks off, the whole car will stop running. So out with the new and in with the old
He also says he has a 600 cfm Edelbrock he can let me have, instead. Isn't that what you are using Chris? Is it worth trading for?
