idle problems....need help

i have a carbed 383 with a holley 750DP on it. i am having a problem with the idle not coming all the way down to the proper idle speed once motor gets warmed up. when i come to a stop sign and push in the clutch the idle just hangs at the cruising speed or drops a little and then hangs. if i let out the clutch a little to bog the motor down, the idle comes down to where it should be and its is fine. i can not find any vacume leaks anywhere, and the mechanical choke does not seem to be sticking or causing problems.
i also checked with the distributor. i had a problem with other motors where if i had the lightest springs on for the mechanical advance that it would not pull the weights back in sometimes. i tried heavier springs but i still have the problem.
any ideas for me?

i had a 750 edelbrock in my nova, bought it brand new, not too long after i put it on, it would do what you described, i just tapped the throttle with my toe and the idle would go down, had to do it everytime i let my foot off the gas. the problem i had was the butterflies would stick because they had gotten a bit crusty, i cleaned them out and the problem went away.

just a thought
