They are all the same, more or less. None make more hp on a carb, unless it is ridiculously small.

I voted other.
Hot Rod (******) mag did a test in the june issue.
The results were:
HP TQ
#1 Rush #2
#2 AFE #4
#3 Holley #3
#4 K&N #1 tie
#5 Purolatar #1 tie
All were new and clean:
I use Akimoto (made in the USA). From our dyno runs they beat Moroso, K&N and nothing. Comparing the numbers HR got on the K&N, I know the Akimoto would best all they tested. Of course Akimoto dosen't advertise in HR though..."I'm going to have to say a bad word....*****" (from the first Rocky movie). LOL
No I'm going to stop my subscription, you can never have to much info. You just have to pick and choose wisely
You all take it easy, because I don't.

Car Craft did that type of test this summer, too. Both mags found the differences in hp and torque to be negligible, well within the the margins of error allowed by the dyno manufacturers.
Some filters flow more but even the worst allows the engine to develop its maximum hp and torque.

I have a K&N, because I didn't want to have to buy another one, plus they stand up to the wet a little better than paper. Too bad my dad dropped a carb on it last winter. So much for not buying another one.

I think I read one of the mentioned air filter comparisons. As I recall, a 14 x 3 filter flowed more air than the flowbench was capable of measuring. They had to duct tape off half of each element so that the flowbench could measure the flow. Half of a 14 x 3 paper element flowed like 3000 cfm. Sure, the K&N style might have produced even an extra 200 - 300 cfm, but how many of us have a carb that needs more than 6000 cfm air flow?
A word of advice: What ever a rice burner thinks is hot ****, isn't. Of course a different filter is a big deal to them. If you're dragging as$ down the road in an underpowered Civic, someone farting out the window can add a few tenths in the quarter. However, for a real performance car, you need to look into real performance mods.
As always, the above is IMHO, and your mileage may vary.

I can just see some rice boy hanging out his hatch with a lighter. You'd have some Batmobile power then.
