I'm running a Speed Demon 750 DP and it's great. It's only in the low 50's at the moment and gives me a little trouble on first start up. Still, it's not much of a pain, idles on it's own after a minute at 1200 rpm. Humm dunno what I've done to change over to it, lots of things are gone off the engine so I have less to hook up. Here's a pic of it on my old engine... The only vacuum things I have hooked to it are the brake booster and PCV.

Well, I only had mine on a little while before my cam failed, but I liked it. I went from a computer controlled quadrajet. I know that I had a hell of a lot better kick on the launch an shifts, but never got to go to the track with it yet. I have a 750 dp w/ electric choke. I think that the coldest it got while I was driving it was 30-40, but it started up good. It actually started a bit better than my quadrajet because of the leaky fuel bowls on the quad. I think that the electric choke makes a big difference on a street driven vehicle.
I didnt get it tuned before my cam problem because it was already in the process of eating away at a lobe(s). I bolted it on stock, and tuned the idle mixture for best vacuum, and it ran great, but was rich. It would drop a little lean if I would just barely get in the gas because of the powervalve. I needed to mess w/ the jetting and powervalve, but other than that it drove great. I didnt even notice it the problem w/ the powervalve till I put the fuel ratio gauge in it. You could feel it, but it was real slight. The gauge helped pinpoint what was going on during what conditions though.

It sounds like a big part of dealing with a carb is the tuning? How do you measure what is working and what isn't? Do you have to have special tools? Is it carb specific?
It gets down to zero here. I know they can handle it, but I don't know how. My frame of refernce is childhood when I would see neighbors with their hoods up scracthing their heads in the cold.

i have my choke disconnected on my edlebrock
all i do is pump the gas 4 times before i turn the key
rarely does it ever not fire up right away
and its cold here (6 inches of snow on the car right now)
the only downside is that i have to let the engine warm up for a few minutes before i take off for work
not a biggie though
so much simpler than EFI

i run a 750dp with no choke, and have very little problems in the cold. It usually fires right up and dies once, then starts again, hold the gas for about 10 seconds at about 1500rpm, and it idles down to 800 or so and stays that way forever...this is in about 28* weather.
I love mine.
