Rich carb, Holley 4160...

Hi i've installed a 4160 holley on my mostly stock 305 and it's running too rich (black smoke!, small bog when secondary kicks in-> not awfull at all)... I also have problem with the power brakes, when press the rpm drops alot, i can make it stall too when hitting the brakes hard... am i better off plugging it to the base of intake?.

I'm a total noob with holleys, i will try to ajust the 2 floats then the 2 ajustement screw on the sides of the carb (i think theres 2)

Also where do i hook up the PCV? right now only the powerbrake and vacuum distributor is hooked up. also do i have a spot for the gas canistor?

My old Qjet wasnt running too good (rich). This one seem the same... i did not touch the jetting since i dont know how, where, which... I did try my friend Qjet once and the idle was dead smooth, no bog... just perfect.

I want to sell the car, i've alredy had a guy come over to check the car but i need to make it run good so they potantial buyer try the car...

I'm still thinking of buying a rebuild Qjet so everything runs fine and every acc and smog stuff plumb in it... 400$ OMG!

There is no spot for a pcv or charcoal canister. You can use breathers instead of the pcv though. The charcoal canister you will just have to leave disconnected. If you have adjusted all you can and checked everything, but it's still rich then you probably need to downsize the primary jets some.

Make sure the fuel preasure is correct. 5-7 psi. Also, make sure neither of the needle an seats are sticking/floats stuck. (make sure there's no fuel dripping into the barrells at idle) If there's fuel dripping down into the intake it will idle bad and smoke black if it's bad enough. Make sure your base gasket is good also.

The PCV hooks up to the same spot as the power brakes do. Without it, the idle circuit will be richer than intended.Get a vacuum "T". If the idle changes significantly when you apply the brakes then the brake booster diaphram is likely leaking.

Replace the power valve in the carb. It's diaphram is also likely leaking allowing extra fuel in. (black smoke)
