quadrajet selection

ok guys ive had it with my holly one of the fuel bowl bolts stripped so im gonna replace the carb i want a quadrajet non computer controlled, i would prefer one that was close and only required a little tuning. is that a realistic goal i have a mild cam in the engine 16 inches of vacuum in park warm idle at 900 (14 at 650 in gear ) would my best bet be to find one that came of a 350 ? partnumbers would be great or sites with info or if you have one sittin around let me know i am very intersted thanks

Holley recommends that you do not tighten the bowl screws to tight. A stripped bolt hole does not just happen, don't blame holley, they did not send the carb out with a stripped hole.....

whooaaaa,

i wasn't bashing the holley. i realize that bolts dont just magicly strip, i was just saying that was the final straw. this carb appears to have been mistreated by its previos owners (big cuts where bowls and metering blocks were pryed off) i have rebuilt it once already and am just no a big fan of it. BUT I HAVE NOTHING AGAINST HOLLEY. the bolts were not overtightned while i owned the car in fact the bolt in question had already been helicoiled os it had been abused in the past. all i want is to know what others are using for non cc quadrajets thanks

Pretty much any qjet will work. Guys will jump in here saying only 60's style non emissions ones are worth messing with, not the case for an engine like yours. Im running a summit 1103 cam, have 15" at idle.

My carb is from an 81 pickup stickshift w/ ac.

It came on the car, but i was able to look up the number. We both have plenty of vacuum so the stock power piston spring is fine, secondaries can be tuned with the right hanger rod choice for your application, and idle mixture screws can easily be adjusted for your engine.

Really any qjet from before the 80's would work fine for idle and part throttle (after a rebuild), but you may have to hunt for different secondary rods to get maximum power.

Just hit the junk yards and try to find one with an electric choke, and no aneroid for simplicitys sake. The aneroid adjusts for elevation changes. Its located in the fuel bowl. Dead give away is a third primary jet.

These versions are more complex than needed.

I can get a complete qjet for 10-15 bucks here
